Favourite five songs (currently listening to a lot of The Fall hence...)

Ride Away - The Fall
Theme from Sparta FC - The Fall
Touch Sensitive - The Fall
Idiot Joy Showland - The Fall
Bourgeois Town - The Fall

Favourite 5 Albums (again based on most recent listening)

Cammell Laird Social Club - Half Man Half Biscuit
Tigermilk - Belle and Sebastian
Country On The Click - The Fall
Second Light - Dreadzone
New Boots and Panties - Ian Dury and The Blockheads

Favourite Book

Impossible to pick one but currently reading Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James. Interesting!

Favourite sporting moment - Probably being at The Oval in 2018 to give Sir Alastair Cook a standing ovation when he came out to bat in his final test match for England.

Favourite Us player - Lua Lua, mainly for the demolition of QPR at Loftus Rd. Scored three and set up McGavin for the other goal.

Favourite Us goal - Halford piledriver...can't remember who it was against

Favourite Us kit - anything with stripes!

Most impressive performance by opposing player - McGreal's half time team talks seem to do more damage than the opposition

Lead......Halfords piledriver was against Sheffield Wednesday.

Favourite Five Songs

Where do you go to my lovely - Peter Starstedt.
We gotta get outta this place - Animals
Down (Ipswich) Town - Petula Clarke
Footsie - Wigans Chosen Few
I'm gonna run away from you - Tami Lyn (You can see my Northern Soul roots)

Favourite Five Albums

Dandy 1960
Beano 1961
Film Fun 1963 (Can here see my perchant for Petula Carke).
Boys Own 1967
Men Only 1992

Favourite Book

The Argos catalogue

Favourite sporting moment - I have three, all personal....

Age 15, hitting Windie's Vanburn Holder for six (not knowing who he was) then not seeing the next delivery as my middle stump cartwheeled. Close second was playing rugby against Leamington Spa who featured a gentleman named Jackie Turpin. He was getting on a bit, but we were warned not to upset him as "He is a bit handy with his fists". Third was playing against French international prop, Pierre Dospital. Our hooker had a plan for him. First scrum, kissed him on the lips. Never seen such a ruckuss in the first minute of a game!

Favourite U's Player

Kevin Lisbie.
Stayed loyal despite U's relegation from the Championship.

Favourite U's goal

Either of Scott Vernon' s double versus Ipswich. 2008. We were already doomed, but nothing better than making the Tractor Boys suffer.

Favourite U's Kit

Kit Symonds.
Caretaker Manager Crystal Palace (Twice)
Caretaker Manager Colchester Utd
Caretaker Manager Fulham
Manager Fulham (finally got found out)
A great bloke.

Most impressive performance by opposing player .

Kevin Phillip's (at age 41) playing against Colchester U23s. Head and shoulders above everybody on the pitch. Also recall Jamie Cureton's hat trick for Norwich.

Favourite Five Songs
Tricky, currently, and in no particular order:
Who Knows Where the Time Goes - Fairport Convention
Desolation Row - My Chemical Romance
Slow Motion Suicide - Ferocious Dog
Unless It's Kicks - Okkervil River
Little Man - King Creosote

Favourite Five Albums
From Scotland With Love - King Creosote
Leftism - Leftfield
Singles - Future Islands
Pick of the Litter - Wolfstone
Europe '72 Live - Grateful Dead

Favourite Book
Ever? Bored of the Rings - Beard and Kenney (Harvard Lampoon)

Favourite sporting moment
Dennis Taylor beating Steve Davis on the black ball in the final frame of the 1985 World Snooker Championship - when I really should have been studying hard for finals.

Favourite U's Player
Mike Walker

Favourite U's goal
Szmodics screamer at Barnet to win 1-0 with less than 10 minutes to go ranks pretty highly, but it has to be Colin Garwood's equaliser against Derby in the FA Cup.

Favourite U's Kit
Tiptree shiny

Most impressive performance by opposing player.
Roy Burton - goalkeeper for Oxford United, comedic performance, eccentric, shorts half-way down his erse, barely 5'6" in his socks, and kept out everything we threw at him as I recall.

For the Us, Steve McGavin tucking away the third in the Trophy final or the final whistle on the play-off final. Biggest moment I witnessed was probably Tony Adams 89th minute winner against Torino in the Cup Winners Cup semi final.

Favourite Us player

Tony Adcock

Kit

Conference second season with the white sleeves. Certainly none of the recent ones, our Macron kits have all been awful.

Opposing Player

Carlton Palmer as player-manager of Stockport. Very impressive.

Off at a tangent...appropriate songs for Corona Island

Left a meeting in the City on Thursday morning and put the iPhone on shuffle; first track up was Ghost Town by The Specials.

Popped down to Manningtree a couple of hours ago for my usual Saturday morning shop. Panic by The Smiths came to mind.

Solitaire - The Carpenters

Cruel but excellent thread BW. But how can I do just 5 songs and albums???

I'll cheat. Not in any order though.

Songs:

Fire - Kasabian (live eight minute O2 version)
Oh Well - F Mac
Days of Pearly Spencer - David McWilliams
Budapest - Jethro Tull (best live band I've ever seen)
Piano Man - Billy Joel
Keep on rockin' in the free world - Neil Young
Death of a clown - Kinks
Lady in black - Uriah Heep

Albums:

Air Cut - Curved Air
Nightingales and bombers - Manfred Mann's Earthband
This is the life - Amy MacDonald
Argus - Wishbone Ash
Elephant - The White Stripes
In the land of grey and pink - Caravan
Piper at the gates of dawn - The Pink Floyd

Book: Wisden

Sporting moments : Dennis Taylor snooker World championship final (sorry Wessex)

U's player: Ian Allinson

Goal: Aaron Skelton v Macclesfield in a 5-1 win at the Layer Rd end.
Ray Crawford's first v Leeds

Best opponent : Forgotten the name, but Brentford's keeper and back four in a 1-1 draw at LR in our promotion to the championship season. We absolutely battered them and could have had ten but they resisted magnificently.

Came across this version of an old favourite....

Coronavirus Rhapsody (with apologies to Queen);

Is this a sore throat?
Is this just allergy?
Caught in a lock down
No escape from reality.

Don’t touch your eyes
Just hand sanitize quicklyyyyyy

I’m just a poor boy, no job security
Because of easy spreads, even though
Washed your hands laying low
I look out the window, the curve doesn’t look flatter to me, to me

Mama, just killed a man
I didn’t stay inside in bed
I walked by him now he’s dead.
Mama, life was so much fun
But now I’ve caught this unforgiving plague.

Mama, oooooooh,
Didn’t mean to make them die
Sends shivers down my spine
Bodies aching all the time
Goodbye everybody, I’ve got the flu
Gotta leave you all behind to face the truth

Mama, ooooooh,
I don’t wanna die
I sometime wish I never went out at all.

I see a little silhouette of a man
What a douche, what a douche
Did he even wash his hands though?
Security is tightening
Very, very frightening
Gotta lay low (gotta lay low)
Gotta lay low (gotta lay low)
Gotta lay low, masturbate
Masturbate O O O O

I’m just a poor boy, facing mortality
He’s just a poor boy facing mortality
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

Touch your face, wash your hands will you wash your hands?
BISMILLA No, we will not wash our hands
(Wash your hands)
BISMILLA No, we will not wash our hands
(Wash your hands)
No No NO No No no
Oh Mama mia wash your hands
Covid-19 has put sickness aside for me, for me, for me
(guitar riff….. take it away, Brian..….)

The Brentford goalkeeper was Stuart Nelson. He had a good game against us two seasons ago as well when playing for Yeovil, who he is still playing for at the age of 38.

Favourite sporting moment

I'm cheating as I have two.

1) England beating Colombia on penalties at World Cup 2018.
2) A slightly odd one. Lewis Dunk's goal against Sheffield Wednesday in the 2016 Playoff Semi-Final, second leg. We had missed out on promotion by goal difference to Middlesborough at the Riverside on the last day of the season - somewhat unjustly many would say. After that heartbreak, we had four injuries during the first leg at Hillsborough and ended up running out of substitutes, ending the game with ten men and remarkably coming away only 2-0 down. There was a big rallying cry by all involved at the club ahead of the second leg at the Amex. I left work at 3pm in Coventry and hossed it down to Sussex. On the train to Falmer the news came in that Anthony Knockaert was miraculously fit to play and you could feel it that us fans started to believe we might turn the tie around. The atmosphere in the first twenty minutes of that games something that I have never, ever experienced before. It was wall to wall noise as our injury depleted squad bombarded Wednesday, hitting the post, bar and peppering their keeper with shots. Then about 16 minutes in Lewis Dunk scored and the Amex erupted. I hugged a man next to me I'd never met before, some bloke behind me was standing on his chair going wild. We were one goal away from levelling the tie and for a few minutes we believed. Sadly, Wednesday scored less than ten minutes later and though we huffed and puffed, we couldn't do it. A boy next to me of about 9 years old was in tears at the full-time whistle and his father was consoling him. I'd never been so proud of the team, yet so utterly dejected at the same time that we'd come agonisingly close to promotion to the promised land.

Thankfully, the next season we finally did it and the above moment can now be looked back on with a real smile that though heartbroken at the time, the best was yet to come!

Favourite U's Player

Dean Gerken

Favourite U's goal

I don't have too many to chose from being only a recent fan, but Theo Robinson's scoring the U's third against Swindon this season felt very special. I was right behind the goal for it in the South Stand and I went ballistic. It'd been arguably my hardest day at work also so there was a massive release of emotion in my celebration too!

Favourite U's Kit
I like the look of the 1971 kit with the old badge.

Most impressive performance by opposing player
I'll edit this when I can remember as I'm drawing a blank currently!
