| Opposition corners 16:48 - Feb 1 with 1386 views | loftboy | I have been screaming for this god knows how long to leave someone upfield at a corner, finally yesterday we left three! De-congested the penalty box and gave us an out ball. Only thing I found strange was after one we conceded a throw in then those three players dropped back! [Post edited 1 Feb 16:52]

| Opposition corners on 17:11 - Feb 1 with 1198 views | W12Mikey | I thought it worked well yesterday. Not only does it provide an out ball, but it relieves the pressure on the keeper, especially as all our keepers have been criticised for failure to come and claim the ball in a crowded penalty area. Early days for this tactic, but I hope we persist with it. | | | |

I wonder would Premier League teams try this with Arsenal? Arsenal might be so confident of a precise delivery that they would be happy to take the risk and have more up to rough the keeper up.

Waiting to see what Clive makes of it in his (much awaited) report, but it seemed refreshing after years of all back. The odd thing is that with one up, the opposition normally leaves two back, but yesteday it was three back matching up our three so no numerical advantage. It was a shame that it never got tested as I don't remember any corner being cleared as far as the half way line.

There was one where Walsh sent a superb ball over to the left but as Brian would say CTN

Only thing I would criticise is not having one of them in the middle of our half to receive the ball, which would allow the keeper to go short or long.

There has been one team that has used it,might have been Aston Villa a few weeks ago. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Its revolutionary i tell you

| Opposition corners on 18:40 - Feb 1 with 791 views | Watford_Ranger | Amazed you don’t see it in the Prem especially against the physically bigger sides. Also interesting they only left three back. Sure most teams would choose 4-5. | | | |

| Opposition corners on 19:38 - Feb 1 with 618 views | essextaxiboy | One of the teams on MOTD used it yesterday not sure who but one of the pundits was saying how different it was and if any other teams dared trying it . I was shouting at the TV that we did it yesterday .. Fat Frank didn’t know how to deal with it | | | |
| Opposition corners on 21:21 - Feb 1 with 448 views | Noelmc | I'm a big fan of this tactic as it really annoys me when teams bring everyone back to defend corners. Invariably if the ball gets cleared the opponents have another chance to launch it into the box with their big men still up and keep the pressure on. I think it suits us well as we invariably have a least two small players (perm any 2 from Chair, Smyth, Dembele, Saito & Poku) on the pitch at any time. They offer very little defensively at corners but could be a real threat on the break. I think two left up is sufficient and means the penalty box is less congested for defending the corner, but all credit to Stephan for really going for it yesterday with three left up front. It worked well and long may it continue. | | | |

It's one of the things I really lament in the modern game: the lack of innovation from coaches/trainers. Dave Sexton was famous for this, e.g. going to watch Dutch teams at his own expense to help develop new free kick routines (though he was also working with talented originals like Venables and Bowles who had the skill and appetite to do things seemingly 'off the cuff' that were actually often carefully rehearsed). The point is, alluding to DS isn't merely 'nostalgic' (not that there's too much wrong with nostalgia) - it's about highlighting a kind of spirit of doing things that's all the more important as the game gets more 'professionalised', expectations get downward managed, and people get lazier, more scared, and stupider. I was thinking this week about what it has been that made me fall in love with QPR, and kept me in love, and for me it's been that maverick (often underdog) spirit: Stan, Stainrod, Wegerle, Byrne - and more recently the Terror Bat and Mr Eze. Morrissey is right here - 'diversity', in many ways, breeds conformity. I think we live in very conformist times. Is there anyone apart from us of late (though we haven't been playing it very well) who doesn't play 4-5-1 these days, for instance? Yawn! It's why the forces of groupthink - whether it's on a football message board or in a football club - have to be fought all the harder. Inertia (and its close cousin, corruption) are two of the major human problems. For Christ's sake, we're all in boxes of one kind or another, so try thinking outside them. I suppose what I'm saying is, at the end of the day and all things considered . . . You Rrrrrs! [Post edited 1 Feb 21:44]

Could be effective to leave Burrell up front when he returns. The oppo would deffo leave two back
