Alan Smith to return to ER?
Alan Smith to return to ER?

With the Burnley programme reporting that Newcastle are coming to Leeds for a friendly during the last week in July, we wonder if Alan Smith will feature and what kind of reception he will get?

Leeds fans will get to see some Premiership action after all, when it was reported that Newcastle United are set to take on Simon Grayson's team in a pre-season friendly on July 30/31st - actual date to be confirmed.

Undoubtedly this would be Leeds' plum pre-season fixture and amazingly the first time the Toon Army will have visited ER since the opening fixture of the 2003/04 season when the two-sides drew 2-2.

However the added spice would be the possible inclusion of Leeds old-boy Alan Smith, now a Newcastle player.

In the aftermath of our relegation in 2004, Smith was controversially sold for around £6m to Manchester United. Some Leeds fans have never forgiven him for what is seen as the ultimate betrayal.

When Leeds visited Tyneside for a pre-season friendly two-years ago, Smith received hatred by the bucketload from some of the travelling Leeds supporters.

Personally I do not think it was as black and white (no pun intended) as Smith's detractors make it out to be. As I seem to remember seven long summers ago, Leeds were desperate for cash and Man U offered the money up front.

I was more upset in 2006/07 when Smith was told he could leave Old Trafford on-loan and we were reportedly interested, but he declined any such move and stayed on the wrong side of the Pennines. How we could have done with him back then!

Providing he has not moved on during the summer (and if he did become available Id love to have him back!), hopefully he will play and hopefully those who have given him such a hard-time will grow up and move on!

You can also watch a football match on many devices like you can watch it from mobile phones, television and etc. To get views https://www.resumehelpaustralia.com/ is really good for this purpose in case of getting remarks.
