World Champions come to Spotland
World Champions come to Spotland

The Champions of the World come to Spotland tonight, albeit a much younger version, as United bring a Carling Cup style side to Dale for the Chaff derby.

Whilst it would be no doubt financially advantageous to try claiming that the full side are coming to town, reality has it that United are out on tour avoiding getting bombed in the Far East right now, so it will be a side of fringe players making the journey tonight.

Many of the side came to Spotland earlier in the year for a game against our youth side, winning many a plaudit for the way they played the game along the way from those in attendance that afternoon.

For us, you can only assume that most of the squad will get a run out again, with a further chance to see trialists Nathan Wolfe and Marlon Broomes, both of whom featured against Everton on Saturday.

Entry at Spotland is £12 for adults in all areas of the ground, with concessions available for just £6.

The game will no doubt bring back memories of the fledgling side that they brought to Spotland back in the early 90's, where Dale fans complained at the lack of big names, having to make do with youngsters such as Beckham, Scholes, Neville etc. Highlights from that game are available on youtube by clicking here
