Roberto Martinez slaps a price tag of minimum £15 million on his Champion Squad

Martinez assembled the squad that has won promotion for pretty much for a pittance and in terms of transfer fees received v spent is well in profit after the departure last summer of Lee Trundle for £1 million.

And that shrewdness in the market paid off yesterday when, despite a 2-1 defeat to Yeovil, his side were crowned Champions of League One and preparing for the challenge that the Championship will throw at them next season.

It is Swansea's first assault on the second tier of English football for 24 years and Roberto believes that he has a squad already that will hold its own in the division and believes that his work in the transfer market could already have worked a huge profit for the Swans were they to cash in already on their success.

Roberto is likely to continue his cut price spending over the summer as he tweaks his squad where the weaknesses are and is expected to scour the continent again for bargains, an area he excelled in this season.   "They group of players we've got now are ready for the next challenge.

"They have played 43 league games this season and could have won all of them except one - the defeat at Northampton.  They must be good at what they do because of the way they've played this season and the number of games they've won.

"I expect us to be competitive in the Championship.  I never go into something just wanting to make up the numbers.  I believe in what we've got in the dressing room and the players deserve to play at the next level.   Quite a few will be out of contract at the end of the season - but I don't think many will be leaving.

"A lot of people are talking about some of the players we've got.  If you want to assemble a squad like ours then you're talking about having to spend £15 million to £20 million.

"We have players like Andy Robinson and Leon Britton who should do even better in a higher division.   I believe Swansea City will add something to the Championship.

"Look at our Liberty Stadium - it's a fantastic arena.  We will also play gooid football.  I won't know how well we are going to do until we start playing games.  Bristol City have done very well this season.  Maybe the momentum and winning mentality they gained from last year's promotion has helped them.  But on the other side you have Scunthorpe.  They were League One champions last year and have found it difficult in the Championship.

"We need three or four new players to make sure we're ready for the next challenge.  There are certain areas we need to improve in.  There are financial limits at Swansea.  We won't spend money we haven't got.  I went abroad last year to get players and that was because I had to.  To sign players from Championship and League One who can improve us will cost £700,000 to £1 million each.

We haven't got that kind of money to spend so I have got to find talent at affordable prices.   Finding players like the ones we got last summer will be hard but they are out there.  We haven't got money to bring in new stars so we have got to make them.  That's the reality.

"We've got to do what we did last year again.  We spent 15,000 Euros on Angel Rangel, £60,000 on Ferrie Bodde and £25,000 on Jason Scotland.   Guillem Bauza, Andrea Orlandi and Dorus De Vries were all free transfers.  We spent less than £100,000 on all those players and they are now worth millions.
