2001/2002 Draws To A Close - Torquay Visit Vetch

When this season started back last August, there was no imagination what we would go through this season and to make it worse, there have been few highlights on the pitch to numb the pain of what was happening off it. Back in August, we had John Hollins in charge and Mike Lewis in the boardroom. We have had two managers and two owners since then - a reasonable indication of what this season has been about.

But it would be nice to go out in style - especially after the humiliation of losing 7-1 at Hartlepool last weekend. And there will be changes to the starting line-up from that game. Leigh De-Vulgt and Ryan Casey join the injured list and may even have played their last game for the club. Jason Jones seems certain to remain in goal in place of Roger Freestone and we await to see if the Cusack axe may fall elsewhere. He will have an idea of who he is releasing in the summer and if I were Nick I wouldn't play anyone that is being released. Young blood is a better option or to put it another way can they be any worse?

This is, of course, Cusack's first home game in permanent charge of the team and there has been criticism flying around of his credentials with many labelling his appointment as a 'joke' Whatever you believe, his appointment has been made and to write him off after one game is sheer idiocy. Back the man for now and judge him next season. League position after today is irrelevant as is the result itself.

Torquay travel to the Vetch without Jason Fowler and Paul Holmes and will also be looking to go out on a high after losing 4-2 at home to Halifax last week. Swansea triumphed last year on their trip to Plainmoor, when second half goals from John Williams and Mamady Sidibe won the day for the Swans.

Much of the same today would be more than welcome and then we can firmly put the season that was 2001/2002 behind us. And the World Cup starts in less than 6 weeks.
