Craig Beattie has promised Swans fans goals this season and vowed to break his Liberty Stadium duck

The Swansea City striker netted just three times last season - all of them away from the Liberty Stadium as the Swans ended as lowest scorers in the Championship.

But rather than dwelling on what happened Beattie looked forward when speaking to the Western Mail and promised that the goals were around the corner.

He said “This is a big season for me, I was disappointing last year.

“It took me a little while to get going. Paulo eventually put me in and I started doing really well but then in November I had grade two strain in my knee and a back spasm which took me a while to get over.

“When I did come back I was in and out of the team and I wasn’t at my best.

“I just want to get my first goal.

“Nobody has actually mentioned it to me and I probably shouldn’t be the one to bring it up, but I never scored a goal at home last year.

“I got a few important goals away from home.

“But now I just want to get out there and show the fans at the Liberty why I was signed.

“I hope they will see the best of me.

“I don’t want to say last season went badly, but I suppose what I’m trying to say it that this one won’t go any worse.

“I definitely think this will be a more successful season for me on a personal level.

“But, more importantly, it’s about the team and we want to make sure the absolute minimum this year is making the play-offs.”

There were reports last season of a fall out between the striker and then manager Paulo Sousa to which Beattie responded

“To be fair, any time I was fit, I was in the squad

“I had no problem with Paulo.

“Things happen at football clubs. People have words, fall-outs, disagreements and what-not.

“But I spoke to Paulo after he left and we wished each other all the best.

“There certainly weren’t any problems and I felt that any time I was fit and available, I was given an opportunity.”

And of a personality clash between him and Paulo: “I don’t think so. It’s just that sometimes things can be said at the wrong time and taken the wrong way.

“I just wish it had worked out slightly differently. That’s in the past now though.

“I was devastated with the way last season ended but, once it was over, I just wanted the new one to start,” he added. “I didn’t want a two-month break and I didn’t want to grumble on about the way it finished.

“It was far too long for me to be waiting around and I’m glad we are up and running now. I’m feeling good and I just want to get fit.”
