Veteran broadcaster Stuart Hall faces prison tomorrow having admitting to indecently assaulting 13 under-aged girls between 1967-1986, one of them aged just nine at the time. It was during this period Hall's unwanted attentions came our very own Mick Jones's way, admittedly in a much less indecent fashion than his victims.

Hall, 83, once described Jones as "a heaving, sweating, plunging Lincolnshire dray". This prompted Jones to put pen to paper warning Hall to "watch his step". I'm sure many of us forgave him this indiscretion and despite his shame, his summaries were worth listening to.

George Graham used to think so, in a 2011 interview with Jon Wells of the Sabotage Times, Hall claimed when manager of Arsenal, Graham would order the team coach to pull up off the motorway to get the best reception of Hall's R5 Live "Match Reports". Often littered with Shakespearian anecdotes, Hall's words brought the most drab game and overrated players to life. I recall when Howard Wilkinson, who like most of us were perplexed at Brian Deane's failure to live up to his hefty price tag in front of goal moved him onto the wing, prompting Hall to describe him as "a lumbering peradactil"

His work never failed to brighten up the most drab of Saturday evenings, even in the wake of a hefty Leeds defeat. When he was arrested and pleaded not-guilty last December, just months after collecting his OBE, I honestly hoped that the allegations were untrue and thought that maybe, just maybe, Hall was another high-profile arrest of celebrities such as DLT and Jim Davidson, a knee jerk reaction in the wake of the Jimmy Saville scandal?

Hall too could have been providing one of his legendary commentaries when he described the allegations as "pernicious, callous, cruel and, above all, spurious". Ge was living a lie. Although he would claim he was putting his financial affairs in order due to a "heart defect", it emerged in February he transferred the deeds to his £1.2m Spanish-style villa in Wilmslow into his wife's sole-name which has led to speculation this was done to avoid compensation claims from his many victims.

There could be more than 13, one case was dropped due to "technical issues" and Hall once boasted about sleeping with more than 100 women. He bragged about bring "a bit of a fanny merchant", in 2007 on BBC Five Lives "Fighting Talk" he claimed that the average 10 year old could instruct you in "oral and anal sex".

I sincerely hope Hall gets what he deserves and his final commentary will be HMP Strangeways v Armley.
