Wickham comes to a club with “big potential”
Wickham comes to a club with “big potential”

Leeds have completed the loan signing of Sunderland striker Connor Wickham, who was last seen on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.

The 20-year-old joins the club until the end of the season, and will be eligible for the trip to QPR on Saturday. For the time being he is surplus to requirements at the stadium of Light, but he scored eight goals in twelve games during his spell at Wednesday, including one of the six we conceded at Hillsborough last month.

But despite getting a close view of our ineptitude during that 6-0 hammering, he still thinks he’s come to a club who can win promotion this season. “Once I heard Leeds were interested in signing me there were no other choices and no doubt I wanted to come. The potential here is big. There are some players here that I know already, and the team is looking to push towards the Play-Offs. Hopefully I can help with that.”

Clearly we are not famous any more!

Wickham also said that he wanted the chance to play first team football and Brian McDermott told the Yorkshire Post "We are delighted to have signed Connor until the end of the season. There was a lot of competition for his signature, but he was very keen to come and play at Leeds United. He is another young English player who has everything in front of him."

And according to respected journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Leeds are interested in 6ft 18-year-old Cagliari defender Dario Del Fabro, who is described as a as a very good footballing centre-back and dominant in the air. But like so many other things right now, this one will depend on the success or otherwise of mister Cellino’s attempt to buy a majority stake in the club.
