GFH blocked Barnes sale on computer game ratings and buy Brazilian pledge!
GFH blocked Barnes sale on computer game ratings and buy Brazilian pledge!

The bizarre world of Bahrain based GFH Capital's extent of football knowledge was underlined in this morning's Yorkshire Evening Post column by Phil Hay, there are claims that Ashley Barnes' transfer to Leeds in January was blocked based on his ratings on a computer game!

According to Football Manager, Barnes is rated less highly than Luke Varney so GFH Capital based their decision not to sanction Barnes's £500,000 switch from Brighton on a computer game rating! The player joined Burnley instead.

Hay also alleges that that McDermott was also told to sign players only from "top European leagues or Brazilians", which surely makes a mockery of the budgetary restraints GfH capital forced their manager to work under.

Ironically Luke Varney's initial transfer out of the club to Blackburn Rovers was blocked by Massimo Cellino, who has since become the new Leeds United owner, however he has since joined the Ewood Park outfit on loan.
