Ross McCormack's 29th of the season gave Leeds a rare away win at Barnsley on Saturday.

McCormack's 29th of the season on 16 minutes lit up a drab game at Oakwell, to the delight of 4000 travelling Leeds fans, he latched on to a Matt Smith flick on, turned brilliantly in the area and coolly slotted home past Luke Steele's despairing grasp.

This proved to be the only goal of the game and secured Leeds first win here for over 16 years, that say another Scot Derek Lilley netting in a 3-2 win during Barnsley's much famed season in the Premiership.

Now it looks like Oakwell will be off the agenda for one season at least as the defeat left Danny Wilson's team rock-bottom and staring League One in the face.

Bar Rudy Austin coming in as a sub, Brian McDermott refused to change his team as Leeds played for local pride and little else. The game opened at frenetic pace and prior to McCormack's goal we had the better of the opening exchanges with Luke Murphy and Matt Smith going close.

Bar a header from Dale Jennings there was nothing of note to trouble former Tykes loanee keeper Jack Butland.

The second half saw Butland half tested by Jenning's (twice) and Etuhu as Barnsley struggled to find their way through for an equaliser.

However McDermott withdrew Zaluikas and reverted to a 4-4-2 to further negate the threat of the hosts and we looked the side more likely to score, Smith powered a header from a Lees free-kick straight at Steele and Hunt was denied his first Leeds goal by a last gasp intervention from M'voto.

Even with five minutes added time, the best chance to score fell our way with McCormack narrowly missing out on his second and 30th of the season shooting wide left of Steele's post.

So another win, our second consecutive one albeit against a side stranded in the bottom three, given the usual graveyard nature of this fixture it was pleasing to get a result and hopefully this will power us on to end the season on a high with three more difficult fixtures ahead of us.
