The Italian Job begins, as first two signings arrive

It seems that Leeds United signings are like the buses. You wait three months for one, and then two come along at once. And this could be just the start, with more new players expected in the week s to come.

Massimo Cellino announced this afternoon that Leeds have completed the signing of goalkeeper Marco Silvestri from Chievo and midfielder Tommaso Bianchi (a former Italian Under-21 international) from Sassuolo.

The deals were completed by our new sporting director Nicola Salerno, and the two players have already joined the rest of the squad at their Italian training camp. Silvestri has signed a four-year contract, while Bianch has signed a three-year deal, but with an option for a further year

Cellino told the Yorkshire Evening Post. "It is done and they are signed. We have other players coming," He confirmed that he is in talks with Swiss-born centre-back Jonathan Rossini, another Sassuolo player.

And when our owner was asked if he was going to re-invest the money from the McCormack sale in the squad he said “The players we’re going to buy, we were buying anyway. So we need another forward now. We needed a team, not just one or two players like we had last season, and we’ll sign the same people because it wasn’t the plan to sell McCormack and use the money for transfers. In my head he was staying but things happen.”

We’ll just have to hope that Cellino knows what he’s doing, and that he’s got contacts in the Italian game to get the right players to improve the squad.
