Leeds need to move fast to keep Peacock-Farrell
Thursday, 7th Apr 2016 13:48 by Tim Whelan

We urgently need to get Bailey Peacock-Farrell to sign a new contract, in the face of interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Everton.

Young Peacock-Farrell looked very capable during his debut against QPR on Tuesday night, yet amazingly he is out of contract in the summer, and his first team appearance has attracted the attention of several clubs who are currently in the Premier League.

Peacock-Farrell has been on the bench for some time, due to the long-term injury to Ross Turnbull and Charlie Horton’s decision to go back to the USA for ‘family reasons’ earlier in the season. He finally got his chance to grace the first team due to Marco Silvestri’s one match suspension, and he is highly thought of at the club.

HITC Sport are quoting a Leeds United insider as saying “Bailey is a huge talent, everyone at the club is aware of it but there is just three months until his contract expires so there is a real sense of urgency to finalise a deal for him, but confidence is high that he will soon put pen-to-paper.”

It does seem odd that the club have managed to allow his contract to get so close to running out before offering him an extension, but one thing in our favour is that he is likely to stand a better chance of first team football at Elland Road than if he moves to Everton or Spurs. And we will be in the same division as Aston Villa next season, so there wouldn’t be much point in him going there.

So if Peacock-Farrell was to stay at Elland Road, how long would he have to wait to become our first choice goalkeeper? Silvestri is a good shot stopper on his day, but in his time with us he has also shown himself to be a ditherer who doesn’t always command his area. On the basis of Tuesday night’s performance there will be many Leeds fans who would like to see Peacock-Farrell as first choice sooner rather than later, but will he get this opportunity?
