Tres Kandol gave the perfect response at Brighton, after missing a penalty against Orient in Leeds previous encounter.

Kandol capped agreeing a new-deal with Leeds by popping up in the 78th minute to sink Brighton at the Withdean Stadium.

Leeds were somewhat under the cosh in a competitive encounter on the south coast. Having never won at Brighton's scratch pro-tem ground, Leeds looked like continuing that miserable run as Albion were on top during a dull, opening half an hour.

Ankegren saved from Robinson, then Martot shot wide. Leeds responded when ex-Seagull Carole forced Kuipers into a save on 31.

Leeds suffered an injury blow to Andy Hughes, who left the field on 37minutes, his replacement Ian Westlake - hero of United's dramatic last gasp win at Oldham earlier this month.

Brighton turned the screw and Ankegren was again alert to deny Revell.

But the northerners broke the Seagulls hearts on 78 minutes and the goal was an early Christmas gift from dozy Albion defender Adam El Abd. The Brighton player turned a harmless Frazer Richardson cross right into the range of Kandol, Kuiper attempted to punch the danger away, but the big forward gobbled up goal number six of the season and that was that.

The win moved Leeds up to ninth in the table, okay Leeds seem to be getting lots of breaks and luck of late but this habit of sneaking wins is certainly a hard one to break!
