We went on a two week cruise around the Canaries last year - sets you up nicely for Christmas although the missus said it ruined her Xmas preparations! Can also recommend a January holiday - really helps taking out those first two dark, cold and uninspiring weeks (although you do miss the FA Cup 3rd round - which is sometimes a blessing in our case!)

Went in mid Dec last year and the boss says it interfered with her xmas! So going somewhere in mid Nov this year.
