Swansea City record against Forest Games won: 23 Games drawn: 16 Games lost: 26
Over the last ten games the swans have only won twice. The last time was in the play off semi final in May 2011. And you probably recall that quite well. So this trip isn’t the most successful for the swans. Before that Swansea last won at Forest in May 2006. A lively day for those who recall the trip. Fires included - and a wonder goal From Trundle to win the game, but we must not forget Adrian Forbes superb goal to bring the score level.
That play off semi final game
What is a Nottingham ? To understand this you have to ensure your knowledge on Terrence Trent Derby is up to scratch. Terence was a mate of mine in the army, he was from Nottingham, unfortunately being named the same as the local river by the football ground, and the bigger club Derby did meet with some problems.
Not Tin Ham As soon as you break the new name for Nottingham down you get to see the old name. In 1648 before tinned products the area was called Not Tin Ham. Many people used to say this a lot, they didn’t know what it meant until 1823 when tin was invented by a chap called Steve Duffy. Before the people of Not Tin Ham could even comprehend this major change they ran out of ham. Someone, probably an adult suggested they make some tin and they bought some from Steve Duffy who has a shop in Matlock. They put all the ham they could find in foiled wraps of tin. Which at last ensured the local folk would always remember the name of their small town. But only when they ran out of stock. Yes, the true history of Not Tin Ham.
Not Tin Ham yesterday
Supporters of Nottingham Forest seriously do resent being called Notts Forest, as that’s like being Notts County which albeit are in the same city are not a rival due to the fact that’s not a thing. So never say Notts Forest, it offends them all the time and most of all when you say it.

Notts Forest v Swansea City
PRE-MATCH STATS
Nottingham Forest have only lost one of their last nine league games (W5 D3), with that defeat coming away from home in March 2011 (2-3).
Swansea City are winless in seven away league visits to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest (D3 L4).
Nottingham Forest manager Chris Hughton has won 26 of his last 37 home matches in the Championship (excl. play-offs), drawing eight and losing three of the other 11.
Swansea City haven’t lost consecutive away league matches since losing seven in a row under Graham Potter between February and April 2019.
Nottingham Forest striker Lyle Taylor is looking to become the first Forest player to score in four consecutive league appearances at the City Ground since Dexter Blackstock in May 2015.
The Independent Mole
Nottingham Forest play host to Swansea City on Sunday afternoon on the back of recording two successive defeats in the Championship. Meanwhile, Swansea make the long trip to the City Ground having won just one of their last four matches, leaving the club four points adrift of leaders Norwich City. However, while 12 points from nine matches is a respectable return, Hughton and the club's fanbase would have expected more from his opening seven weeks in charge.
Forest had been heading in the right direction before the international break, but defeats at Barnsley and Bournemouth have put a negative spin on the progression of Hughton's side.
On a positive note, Forest still sit three points above the relegation zone ahead of back-to-back home fixtures, which represent an opportunity to make progress up the standings. That will only be achieved if Lyle Taylor receives a helping hand in attack with the summer arrival still the only player to score more than once in the league. Swansea are still searching for a solution to their own issues in front of goal, but the work of their backline has kept the club in the playoffs since the start of the season. While only Middlesbrough possess a better defensive record after 13 matches, Swansea find themselves in joint-ninth in the standings for the final third. Steve Cooper will have few complaints while the Welsh outfit remain in the top six, but Andre Ayew has now scored 40% of the club's strikes.
Ayew on form in front of goal, there’s that dodgy ref again
Isaac Independent View
Sunday’s Championship game sees two teams experiencing contrasting seasons go toe-to-toe, as Nottingham Forest welcome Swansea City.MThe hosts have lost their last two games and they remain three points above the bottom three. Barring a huge goal swing, Forest will not drop into the relegation zone with a loss but a defeat will raise concerns once again. Swansea City will rue their draw to Sheffield Wednesday in midweek as they missed the chance to close the gap on the top two.
A loss could see them drop out of the top six entirely if results elsewhere all go against them. A win could see them jump into the automatic promotion spaces if permeations go their way. There is a lot to play for in this clash.
Referee Tony Harrington We have had him already this season, not literally, that’s not football. Harrington began refereeing in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance at the age of 14, having completed a basic refereeing course whilst at school as part of the Duke of Edinburgh award. After four years as an EFL assistant referee and four years as a National League referee, he was appointed to the EFL Referees List in 2012/13 and has now overseen more than 190 EFL matches. Tony is the Grandson of Tommy McGuigan, who is in the Hartlepool United record books for top 10 number of appearances and goals for the club.
Referee’s recent games involving Swansea City The last game he was official for was the 2-1 home defeat to Huddersfield Town. Nothing remarkable happened other than a wasteful day in front of goal for the swans. Prior to that he was the referee last season when the swans won 3- 0 at Middlesbrough. He was also the referee last season for the eventful game on and off the pitch in front of 23,000 at Ashton Gate. In that match he oddly sent off Jake Bidwell.
When did Tony Harrington decide the result of a Swansea City game ? In 2018 Harrington was the referee who awarded those two ridiculous penalties converted by now swans player Ryan Manning. Ryan described the awards as absolutely shocking. Rotherham won the game 2-1. Harrington was never credited with these two assists but what do you think ?
Those two penalty decisions could be described as nothing more than very dodgy
Today’s table shows a simple 1/2/3. Win and the swans go potentially 3rd, probably 4th. Draw and the swans go 5th Lose and the swans stay 7th

Leon moved the ball a shitload faster and with more purpose than Grimes does.
That's the major problem. It's not what Grimes does. It's the time he takes to do it. There's no urgency about his time on the ball, and that bogs the team down. If he went about his business with more purpose then he'd probably find himself with more creative options.
If the best people can say about our primary ball player is that he's good defensively then that tells its own story.
Bang on Doc . Leon would set the tempo for the whole team and keep it going. The number of times if seen Grimes look like he’s accelerating forwards with purpose gives the impression that he’s about to slide a killer ball through. Then reality strikes and he passes the ball backwards or sideways.
When we played Brentford Grimes was on the bench in the first half. Smith and Fulton were finding forward passes with ease, cutting Brentford to pieces. The number of chances we created was criminal .

Statistically he's great. Lots of completed passes. Lots of retained possession. Pity football isn't played on a spreadsheet or he'd be a contender for the Ballon d'Or.
He's not an untalented player. That's probably what frustrates me about him the most. He can play, but I don't think he's having the kind of coaching he needs to draw a bit more ambition out into his game. I suspect Cooper is quite happy with his caution because Cooper is a cautious manager. Hence the brakes going straight back on after the improvement we saw against Brentford.
Potter seemed to get into his head a bit more and get him looking up more often.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Bit of perspective needed, Leon wasn't doing "a Leon" until far later in his career. Grimes is being compared with Leon in his prime without the leadership burden.
We have a fluid midfield which has been running rings around top quality oppo. The zip has unsurprisingly waned slightly as this ambitious, clever set-up requires total commitment, focus and energy.
Within the fluid middle, Grimes will be adopting the de facto holding role, with Fulton and Smith floating around and ahead of him - yet all with license to eek out opportunities to bomb up, down and laterally.

It's not bang on, it's a load of pretentious, dog whistling guff.
For one you're talking about a world class player in Leon (at least in our eyes and what he did for us in every league) that's a lot of weight for anyone to carry, even if it is a loose comparison.
The comparison is in the fact that Matty is one of the very few ball players we have left, someone who can take it from any direction no matter how much pressure on him, someone who comes looking for it EVERY SINGLE TIME, never shirking responsibility, someone who plays through the thirds and links well with his defenders allowing an "out ball" for them, instead of just lumping it up there.
His stats are good because they don't lie. What does lie is the smearing tosh fans just follow like effing sheep every time one of his passes goes astray or he's skied a shot. That is frustrating for any fan to see and it's a part of his game he will work on, no doubt.
Matty ain't perfect, Matty didn't ask for the armband, but he's doing his level best and giving 110% every time he pulls on the shirt. Apart from Roberts, there is no one that covers more distance, there is no one with a better pass accuracy, no one with more passes per game, no one with more key passes and no one with better tackling stats.
You don't need the game to be played on an effing spreadsheet you just need to open your eyes a little.
Matty is also suffering from an extremely strangled way of playing. We played 9 defensive players v Forest and that was enough to win. Were we the better side, maybe, was it a good away performance, probably, but what would we have done with a bit more invention in our play - of course we will never know so we bank the points and move on.
But movement?? Where is it? Matty has a very stiff Jay and Smith around him. Those 2 are not comfortable taking the ball in tight spots, especially Smith who has a major tendency to hide in some games. I see the Brentford game got mentioned and I will say this, that was Smith's best game for us because he must have felt he "had" to take more responsibility but he made more passes in the first 10 mins that game than he had done in most of the game he'd played previously. Mind, one of those passes went astray and it cost us the goal. But I wouldn't blame Smith for that. I do blame him for hiding behind their midfield when Cabango or Roberts or Bennet or Naughton is looking up for someone to hit though.
This moving the ball fast enough is such a weak and pathetic argument and it has no base apart from it being in the head of a few fans and resultantly ended up in the head of more and more fans. Matty may go back here and there, but nothing like people imagine or moan about and Matty tries to keep possession. Have these people forgotten all that made us successful??
We haven't got a zippy midfield, we haven't got zippy wing backs and we've got no wingers. The only bit of pace in the team is arguably Lowe. We play a tight, careful game, similar in many ways to Monk-ball and too much of it is without the actual thing, the ball!!
And without the ball Matty puts in more of a shift than anyone in the team. I don't know how many games we've come back this season from losing positions but it's players like Matty (and Ayew) who roll their sleeves up and drag us back into it.
The boy is everywhere and he'll take the ball from anyone at anytime. Jay and Smith couldn't lace his boots in that respect so if you want to see anything like the team and style of play that made us famous and effective it's Matty plus one or two others.
We don't need 3 of the same type of player in the midfield.
In my humble opinion.
Evening all.

'The comparison is in the fact that Matty is one of the very few ball players we have left, ...' Define ball players. In his misfield role I see his passes being very safe and laboured. A couple of threaded passes a games really doesn't make him a great midfield ball player in my book. Against Forest he played three dire passes ... one as bad as Sanches and only really worked hard when he was trying to win the ball back from one of his errors. He's a decent enough but limited player at this level. (Anyone know why he's still taking free kicks and corners?)

Define ball players? And this on a football forum. I mean, I know our fans aren't blessed with too many brain cells but that's a ridiculous question even by these ultimately low standards.
Matty is and has been playing the DM role for us - before I go on, you do know that do you? He's not at traditional 10 where he may be more tasked to create in tight pockets in and around their box.
He sweeps up, he marshals, he brings others into play, he transforms defence into attack, he defends (effing amazingly), he comes looking for the ball, he makes himself available, he can take a ball anywhere and with players up his arse, he's got great feet and touch, he sprays passes, he switches play....
Now Matty doesn't pick the team but if he did, I doubt very much he would pick Smith and Fulton alongside him.
Smith and Jay don't have the above qualities, they aren't comfortable getting the ball from defence and turning and moving the ball through the thirds. Smith hides A LOT and is more comfortable and better further up the field facing their goal.
And Fulton spoils mostly, he's dependable but not spectacular. He was rightly dropped against Sheff Weds as he was very poor against Rotherham. He is more comfortable on the ball than Smith but his feet are nowhere near the class of Matty's.
For me Jay is frustrating, he will have a good game here and there and then in others it's like the game passes him by. You can never say that about Matty, no game just passes him by even if he's having a off day, he's still everywhere in the thick of it.
So, conclusion, we NEED Matty playing, as much as possible.
We DON'T NEED 3 DM's. Or if Smith has come as a more advanced CM then we need someone a bit more crafty there.
I've been saying all season I would like to see Manning given one game there as he's just rusting away on the sidelines. He's deputising for arguably our best player this season in Bidwell and I'd like to at least see if it works, or not, him in CM. He's different to both Smith and Fulton, he's got great feet and technique and he's competitive. It may not work, I don't know as him and Matty are both left footers but plenty of managers play 2 right footers there, including Cooper this season.
For me, there's very little in this league we need to be overly cautious for. Bielsa would never have played 9 defensive players but there again, he managed to get his players fit and running for 95 mins. He's set a benchmark in this league transforming once average players into EPL standard. And most of that is simply down to a lot of fitness and some coaching.

I agree with not having 3 DMs but not Grimes .Still ,all about opinions.
Bennett is the player that stands out for me.
Just make this fella captain and it might benefit Matty.

For me I'd make Ayew captain, but wouldn't disagree with Bennett either.
I think it's unfair to change during the season though and would be a bit of an insult to Matty which would surely dent his ego/confidecne. He wouldn't deserve that, but I suppose football is a ruthless game and that's why I'm not paid the big bucks making decisions.

Don't think much gets to Grimes, uber confident as draws massive comfort and belief from his rare natural talent. He would as happily relinquish the armband as keep it, though agree would be odd to do it mid season.
Until MGW returns, Fulton is our best in the 2nd phase - typically Grimes collects and pings to Ayew, who in turn takes on the baton further upfield - and links with Fulton in that space. Smith is the water carrier, but often does a decent job in an anonymous way. The difference this year is we are trying to play with fluidity, where they all work busily in packs. It's worked in patches but will take time to get right and takes loads more effort, fitness and concentration.
Ayew has set this tone of marauding and harrying - and Grimes is up there with him in that aspect. With the Ayew - Grimes - Bennett spine we can be formidable.
