| Embarrassing Tourist Things 09:59 - Oct 20 with 6223 views | Boston | I’m sure we’ve all done a few. This morning I’m walking around Brookside, Liverpool, site of the Scouser series. The pics I take will have Mrs Boston thinking I’m a nice bloke, myself, the words ‘video nasty’ comes to mind. | |

| Embarrassing Tourist Things on 06:04 - Oct 23 with 560 views | PlanetHonneywood | Last couple of years I've been to Portugal and Spain several times. Although it's not really a 'touristy thing', you might know that in this part of the world, they sell a lot of ornate tiles, especially letters and numbers. Consequently, I've become obsessed with rearranging the tiled letters: P, Q, and R, whenever I pass a shop selling tourist tat. On one occasion Mrs PH popped out to get something, and messaged me a picture simply asking: 'Is this you?' I'm no Banksy, but I've got an idea how he feels when his work is recognised. So, next time you're in the Iberian peninsula, add this to your 'touristy things to do' list. Certainly on mine next month | |

Every bloody day of the week they're there. Also perpetual gangs of them trying to get run over outside the bookshop in Blenheim Crescent. It was a shit film from nearly three decades ago, get over it. |
I'm just a tourist, standing in front of a door, asking it to love me The most touristy thing I've done is probably the Sydney Harbour Bridge about 15 years ago. It was actually alright but I thought a bit spenny at $120. Apparently it's $350 these days. Fùck that Bruce.

| Embarrassing Tourist Things on 16:04 - Oct 21 by Boston | Spent a few hours in the Cavern Club…actually, ok for a drink. Then went over to Eric’s and didn’t recognize the place, barman filled me in on the changes over the years. |
Don't get me started. Liverpool Council bulldozed it in the 80s despite many petitions. The one you see now is (roughly) in the same pot (except at an angle to the original) but a replica

Did you not think to continue the tradition established at the Woolpack Inn, Gracelands and the centre circle at Vicarage Road by earlier contributors to this thread, though? A huge dereliction of duty if not.

The original is in the basement of the building next door. It’s been, or being turned into a sports bar. They turned me down when I asked if I could take a peek, then relented after I told ‘em I’d played in there when a kid. Still just exposed brick walls with a stage, though that may be going. Edit: oh hang on, you’re talking about the Cavern Club! [Post edited 23 Oct 9:47]

Your obsession with ‘rearranging’ things reminded me of the time a mischievous lady friend and I found ourselves staggering around Borough Market after a livener or two at the Royal Oak in Tabard Street. Chancing upon a stall displaying dozens of obscure English apples we thought it would be hilarious to swap the signs indicating the names and origin of each one to see if anyone would be able to tell the difference. Thus a Beverley Pippin became a Knobby Russet, a Bloody Ploughman a Beauty of Bath and so on until our work was complete. Utterly infantile, of course, and an act that can only be explained (if not excused) by the brewers of Harvey’s ale.

Well, now we're on the verge of taking this thread over the line toward the random irritation thread! Another of my childish endeavours, involves bluetooth speakers. Hook it up to your phone, get it playing softly, then 'kin 'ave it! I was accompanying Mrs PH to an arts supply store when we were living in Doha. Seeing my opportunity, I peeled off and next, the staff were scurrying to the speakers display to find and turn off the offending one, which was booming!. Given we're in the desert, I thought Oasis would be perfect. Liam's dulcet tones advocating a diet of cigarettes and alcohol wasn't appreciated. Mrs PH appears uttering, 'That was you!', as I ushered her out when the security guards entered the picture

$350 to cross a bridge? And people moan about the Dartford Crossing toll!
