As I told you the last time I posted, about a year ago that we'd be growing fast and doing better than most.

Well I was wrong, we're the fastest growing developed economy and socialist france is going down the toilet.

I remember people laughing when I said we'd grow over 1% - we're on track to grow over 2% .
All indicators in right direction, sadly all welsh public services down pan due to labour welsh assembly incompetence.

But that'll never change, I realise that.

Not all manufacturing is heavy industry.

Im aware of that mun, but look at how big the size of the community it serves, if that place continues to struggle or worse the effects it will have in South Wales will be massive and no other "maunfacturing" buisness will be able to make up the difference.

If Tata goes tits up I'll be gainfully employed until I retire.

Problem is very little is being done in Wales to encourage replacements.

Tata going tits up could be the least of South Wales's problems if the Tories win again in 2015.

As Bogey suggests the problem is that other parts of UK adapt we live in this tired notion everything last forever.

It's not booming in Wales for sure. You'll have to look at the cretins in Cardiff Bay for the reason why.

Yes labour have done a scintillating job for Wales, we're positively booming.

Our education results are first class, our NHS figures are top of the league.

When are we EVER going to move away from the socialist comfort blanket?

You can blame the WAG as much as you like, but the UK government controls the amount of money allocated to Wales. When that gets reduced in real terms as it has been and continues to be, the knock on effects are felt all down the chain. Councils have less to spend, services are cut, jobs are lost, welfare payments go up. The UK government also directly controls one of Swansea's biggest public sector employers and believe me when I say they really don't give a sh*t what happens if that goes tits up either. You can argue until you're blue in the face about the WAG and its Labour majority but most of the major stuff in Wales is still governed from Westminster and perpetual Westminster Tory government is a disaster for us.

Sorry mate, it has naff all to do with money.

They've fecked up, end of.

This excuse has worn thin for a long time now - everywhere is having to make cuts, the WAG has actually had decent settlements.

They couldn't run a bath, that's the truth, it has nothing to do with money.

Wales used to have an education system that was top of the league we're now over 40th in where as the rest are in mid 20's please don't tell me this has nothing to do with the WAG.

They mean well, I'm sure they're nice people but they haven't got a bloody clue and we're suffering as a result. But it doesn't mean jack sh1t all labour have to do is mention the miners strike and they weigh the vote.

It's thoroughly depressing.

Bang on.

Love your Avatar too. Must admit though, I gave up on Labour long ago too. They are definitely the lesser of two evils but their still puppets for the elite

That widens the argument out somewhat and I'm not trying to say that the WAG is perfect. All I'm trying to point out is that they act in an economic and political straightjacket controlled by the Westminster government. That's a fact. We aren't in control of our own destiny and it's disingenuous to claim that all of Wales's woes start and end in Cardiff Bay. Many of them do, many of them don't. But the real power is still in Westminster.

They control education and health.

They do, it's a fact and they've failed miserably.

They've been in charge for 14 bloody years.

One of my previous jobs was working for a very well known company world wide, in order to attract them to base one of their head offices in Swansea, they were offered 10yrs free rent and business rates, FACT.
As soon as that expired back 2007, the company relocated to Bristol.
Due you really think Amazon would choose to place one of its distributions centres here if it wasn't for WAG, giving the dosh and huge cuts in rates.
Logistically wise, sadly Swansea is on an wim, Swansea will never overcome that, what needs to be 'build' here is a strong base of R&D research, integrated with the university.

They control what the money they're allocated is spent on, not how much is allocated.

As I said, I'm not arguing that they're any good or really bad. That will always depend entirely on your perspective.

We have a business minister Edwina Hart who 'regrets capitalism' a former trade unionist.

Now you don't need to be a fan of Hayek to believe this sort of standpoint might be detrimental to our need to attract private capital and create a thriving economy.

The talent pool is very low at the WAG and yet they have more power than many people realize.

WAG is cardiff centric/focused these days, that is the biggest problem.
North Wales is sadly suffering far worse than Swansea.
0
Austerity on 22:01 - Dec 20 with 911 viewsrockin

Reality is - I'm 110% sure of this if it had never happened the NHS would be stronger, education would be far stronger and we'd have more private sector influence in our economy.

I can't watch the news now without getting irritated, I love my Country and I get angry at our general meh attitude to everything, we settle for second best. I want us to aspire to be great, not satisfactory.

The definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Our Nation has to grow up, it's that fundamental otherwise we WILL be left behind.

What do you call a thriving economy then, low skilled, low paid workforce making fortunes for its Capitalist owners, the talent pool is very low in general, through lack of real investment in providing people from all walks of life the skills they need to create a competitive industry in all area's, you can blame a late former Tory Prime Minister for that.

Not just Swansea but most of Wales as a whole.

You are dead right about our future lying with the knowledge sector. We have some first class education establishments especially in Swansea and Cardiff with some very high tech departments e,g. Life Sciences. With the ageing population, the work they are doing will be very important.

WAG do invest in business and manufacturing but the small establishments that were supported by the WDA (and WAG for a short time after their demise) are hung out to dry. They don't give enough political return if they succeed whereas bigger businesses will do.

WAG is no more than a politically run organisation whose staff care (or at least they did) but are hamstrung by political policy and strategy. I should know!

The wag are too concerned with vanity projects like free prescriptions and hospital parking, things like antibiotics should be chargeable and parking should have a nominal fee of £1.

Yes. I would say those needing medication for chronic complaints should get free prescriptions but not, as you say, antibiotics.
Good vote catcher though!
