"A genuine swans fan" 11:32 - Dec 23 with 4814 viewsrockin

I've heard this term mentioned a lot.

I'm a bit unsure on what the actual meaning is.

Is there a qualification for this?

When are you accepted as a "genuine swans fan"

Is there a grading system?

On here there is for sure.
1.Criticism not allowed
2.Manager always doing a great job
3.Players are fine
4.Our brand of football has got us where we are
5.We re a small club and should be grateful for what we have.

For good genuine supporters just read some of the comments appended daily and weep.

1 or 92 in the league a genuine swans fan supports the team.
A genuine swans fan expects players to play to or near their ability - understands when they don't.
A genuine swans fan expresses desire to win every games but knows we can't.

A fan and a supporter are two different animals, are they not?

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

I'm starting to get some clarification thank you.

I think there needs to be more clarity on this though - maybe Phil could produce a list of directives.

Semantics neath jack.

Not for me.

If people really do see themselves as a better fan/supporter than someone they actually don't know then they need help and quickly.

Personally I loathe apathy above all else

No semantics for me, two completely different things.

Yeah for me they are, a fan has just an interest, a supporter attends games.

Does a fan blow hot and cold air?
While a supporter goes to watch the Swans no matter what division/ how well/ how bad/ they're playing? Sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes apathetic.
genuine fans also seem to start each and every post with the words "I have watched the Swans for 40/50/60/70/ 100 years" (delete as appropriate) Or calling for anyone with an opposite view of their own, to be "redded up/ classed as Crapduff"

If you wake up breathing, thats a good start to your day and you'll make many thousands of people envious.

Are you a supporter if you sit and watch? Or are you are a supporter if you stand and sing or both?

course fans do, as for me THEY are not the best fans.
Fans get upset and overeact as they see things pan out.

It's all to do with the underwear you got on, obviously.

In one part of the ground you will be considered a supporter. Whereas in another part, a noisy nuisance

If you wake up breathing, thats a good start to your day and you'll make many thousands of people envious.

If you sit and watch something, surely by definition, you're a spectator?

Obviously I wouldn't want to cloud this absolutely fascinating discussion....

Fans go to watch us in Russia 'cos they feel they have to, plus it puts them in the Uber Fan category. Supporters are more comfortable with their limitations

That's a fair argument, I'd suggest you're a spectator because you're not partaking in the event.

Therefore could you be considered not a genuine swans fan?

Nobody is saying you're not allowed to criticise the team or that the manager is always doing a good job.

People are saying that you should get a touch of fukcing perspective. Especially you, since you a) only appear here after we lose or play badly, and b) have constantly complained about certain players and managers for all eternity despite the huge progress we've made as a club over the last decade. You can hardly blame people for saying you're negative when you're the most negative person here.

The reality is that mid-table in the Prem with the odd decent cup run or maybe a European jaunt is the ceiling for a club like us unless we can somehow perform some minor miracles. If you're not happy with that fck off and support Liverpool.
