Heard rumours from a number of people that Gary Monk could be at the helm next season. Could just be rumours but he's just taken over an age group at the academy as well. Thoughts?
The board usually find someone who nobody expected and do a good job.
And yes I know we're only half way through THIS season with our CURRENT manager, it's just food for thought! Especially as Laudrup has spoken of his intent to leave. [Post edited 8 Jan 2014 19:10]

gary monk wont be our next manager. if we were back in league 1 then maybe give him a shot, but u cant give a man with no experience of management or playing much at the top leval a job in the prem. Im sure we will stay in the league so will be in a too good position to be employing gary monk as manager.
he needs to be involved with the first team on the coaching side or managing the reserves at least to before hes considered.
i dont think laudrup will go at the end of the season unless a job comes up for him. not sure there will be so many jobs around as there were last season. | | | |

From what I read I'd say most comments were balanced. I didn't comment on the thread at the time if memory serves but I would have said monk would have been a no for me.
It's logical to want a guy with experience and with the cliques that were in place at the time it would have meant major personell problems,which proved to be the case.
The plus point is that the board backed monk strongly in the transfer window and backed him 100% in terms of getting rid of players he didn't want around the club, you could argue they should have done the same with laudrup but in fairness laudrup was never going to be a long term thing, which makes you wonder about the wisdom of putting a long contract in front of him.
The club tried to get the best of both worlds IMO and it cost them a few million as a result.
Monk has done well with his new shaped squad so far, it's better to judge him after 10 games with his own team though.
The early signs are good however and while I never would have given the job to monk I have to give credit for a ballsy move from those who run the club, whatever happens they backed him with money and have given him the best chance to succeed , we will never know how things would have turned out if laudrup stayed.
I always maintained that everyone could have done better , laudrup,some senior players and the board, but it's all done and dusted now so time to look to the future . |  | | |
