The stat is based on him running flat out for long distances. Not actually based on his speed. He was getting up and down the pitch really well and covers a lot of distance.
He might be deceptively fast, but his game is more about shielding the ball in possession.

The development squad was almost dismantled the next day and the optics of getting rid of Furs at the same time was one step too far.
