I will no doubt get ridiculed- but if we consider just the first 60 minutes of the game last night we were not awful last night for me. We had one shot cleared off the line and a few crossing opportunities that were created but poorly executed. Our inability to create chances against the best defences is not a new thing. When York scored i muttered ‘their first ******** real attack’ They had a second chance similar which was ruled offside but i don’t recall anything else of real note first half. Second half started much the same, defences on top. The second goal and subsequent was horrendous and i’m not taking away from that period. Their tails up, our heads down. |

York very strong. Not Barnet strong but competent in all areas and sharp up front. First goal was a great first time sharp cross and poachers finish. Second was Gilmour fairly getting mugged (after their lad had unfairly mugged him a couple of times) Third was Ayinde losing the ball when he should never have been passed to in the first place (see Rochdale DNA ad infinitum comments). Then a bit of keystone cops. Fourth was a procession. At our best, without stupid mistakes, we could theoretically just about live with York (no laughing please). At our worst, riddled with mistakes, you get what we saw tonight. Oh well. Aldershot next. |

It was the absolute lack of threat from going behind after 4 minutes that night which led to my ‘comfortable’ comment. York easily coped for 86 minutes with anything we had. |

Barometer game. IF we are to make the playoffs and IF we harbour hopes of promotion via the playoffs, tonight will give indication of realistic hopes. Barnet were way too good for us and look like they will walk the league. How we perform tonight against York is next level down. They comfortably beat us at their place early on in the season. |

Well played Boston, fully deserved. It’s been a while since a Rochdale classic (Barnet away?) but we came up with a belter and Gilmour’s hung head said it all. These are in our DNA. The second came from another slight bug-bear, we cleared the cross but because we always have 11 men in the box, nobody is ever there to compete for the cleared ball. Their defenders stay in and another evident weakness (Wealdstone at home) saw the ball pumped to the back post and unguarded player scored. This also happened from a set piece second half, cleared, pumped to the back post and Boston had 2 free players. Third was through debutant doing a no-look back heel and Boston breaking to score. Waller kept it at 2 in the first half - man of match for me. Hendo sub was a positive one - he had impact from 46 minute and we created 2 early chances from him Kingdon on made us more fluid. Mitchell on made us more dangerous. The EELs/Hogan thing needs sorting either way, only one spot. Gordon when fit, Kingdon while not. Mitchell/Bird together seems like a bright idea. 2 attackers. Imaginative. Shame it took 0-3 and 75 minutes |

Boston are a very different team to game on day 1 of the season. 6 different players on Sat to first game. Same can be said for Dale, Waller, Kingdon, Hogan, Barlow, Bird have all been brought in and in appearance strengthened the starting line up. Tough game expected. |

In the first half today we had a great break and 2v1 in TA and KM. KM made a perfect run for the ball to be slid down the side of the defender but TA thought different. This was a repeat of a similar position in a recent game only replace TA with Mcbride. Whether he would have scored is moot, but he is making good runs as a striker should do. We should have put the game to bed today but moments like the above hold us back. Fast forward into the second half and KM has the option of a tight angle shot or a square ball to TA. Tight angled shot taken. We should have scored more than one before their equaliser, but that’s our own doing. After the defeat at home, it was good to see us play well v Oldham. If the team could get it into their collective heads that they are good enough to look for the second, then third, rather than defend the one goal they really could go places. Decent point. More than decent performance . |

Thought it was a pen too, which if scored would have made it 1-1 at half-time and a different second half. With it being 1-0 Wealdstone attacked a bit in the second half, so much so in fact that Waller got to handle the ball and go route 1, to Hendo for the game decider. Had it been 1-1 we would most likely have spent the second half camped around their box once more. This was the patten for pretty much the first half, and without wanting to sound negative after a 4-1 win, the lack of creativity/killer pass/movement or whatever is deemed needed to sneak through in this scenario was missing once again. That aside a good performance and results gone our way a good bit. |

Just seen the winner from TA on youtube and his goal celebration. Was wondering if it was possibly a reference to eating/Ramadan which adds another dimension to players match readiness for BJ to consider. |

Would love to see a heat map of East/Gilmour today. Deeper than Barry White for 95% of the match. Tactic was to go long from the back, but we did so retaining our play it out from the back formation. Consequently when Waller kicked it forward, Hogan was on the 6 yard line, East and Gilmour were 5 yards from our box and Mitchell was as isolated as a transgender individual at a Trump rally. Mitchell got hardly anything out of the excellent Tavares (25) but on the odd chance he did win, or at least inconvenience Tavares, there was nobody near. Second ball = Barnet ball. It had obviously been decided to abandon our play it out style today, maybe because Barnet are fast, strong, powerful pressing team, maybe due to crowd pressure (TDS nearly asphyxiates each time we don’t hoof it) but it failed miserably today. Looked collectively a bit lost today - here’s hoping they can find their mojo soon. |

Passed on the circle one. Made it to final but couldn’t crack the code. Junior will be having a go at it tomorrow and is very excited to see thee on it. Ps definitely easier at home, colleague was on a while back, told me how long winded, tense the day is. Double filming so Lee can crack a joke second take etc [Post edited 22 Feb 23:06]

Post match notes from the away game. Please don’t gift Barnet a goal in the first 5 minutes by playing it out from the back unsuccessfully. Please hit a barn door numerous times when presented. Please remember Ian Henderson is quicker in brain than most defenders are in foot. |

Kept Halifax to an early 1v1 and the clumsy penalty.. Aside from that they had no chances No real major chances for us of note either, despite our lions share of the possession. Decent away point if considered in isolation. |
