Introduction to the demon drink
at 12:53 23 Mar 2025

I remember 'Castlemaine' being showcased for the first time in my local, The GreenMan, east ham, 1985.

This exotic spice melange, the pump badge , glowing gold taking the pole position on the plinth of the bar.

This food of the gods born of far flung places, that to a young east ham lad of 17, might as well of been brewed on the sea of fecundity on the dark side of the moon.

This gateway to the palace of wisdom, this conduit for a prolonged derangement of the 5 known senses... all for 75p a pint.

The filthy cut to shit chemical skag of double diamond, Harp, and long life that the beaten generation suckled on for decades, now withering into the void like Keith Moons hampton after a 72 hour binge at the scotch of st james with spanish tony.

At last, a glorious new dawn of upwardly mobile refreshment, casting the grey esso blue 70's lager into the armitage shanks shit pipe..

Not for us flashing young blades around town in our italian knitwear , the thin gruel of the proletariat tractor nipple producing work to rule Skol drinker in his donkey jacket and carpenter jeans.

Alas it was too good to be true , it tasted like fu ckin grade 2 diabetisc piss with skin on top , so i was back on the skol within a week dreaming about Debbie the stripper from 'Minder' tossing me off with a feather duster in the back of my mark 2 capri (canary yellow with a black viynl roof) .

Still. it was good while it lasted.

Castlemaine.. we loved you, for about a week in september 1985.

A horrible shock to see this, this morning.

I have a wonderful picture of him taken at his rambling bohemian gaff, that he sent me a couple of years ago at xmas , looking every inch the character he was.

Progressive rock Wild hair, A smile that shone like Turners Buoy and all encased in classical Roadie double denim.

i Always think of him when i hear the 'weekend world theme' tune. I'll be playing the Nantucket sleighride on rotation this morning.

RIP, my Uncle Gareth.

Rock on.

watched the game pissed out of my skull in the leigh on sea constitutional club. Having drawn up a complex linear equation and computated the variables to within intergers beyond human comprehension. i thought we played with bravery , noble savagery and beauty. well done lads. A point earned in blood and graft.

I love the bones of this association football club. Always have. Always will.

Ursssssss

Raiders.

lol at the experts predicting the wooden spoon for the green machine. Gave the bronco's a cuckolding not seen sally bercow took a shower with dj clinton oliver at her old mans grace and favour battersea dwelling.

With a pack of Tapine, Papali', Horsburgh, Hudson Young, Mooney, Hosking, Mariota and England international forwards Nicholson and Smithies, theres more chance of me sprouting a boneless parastic twin from my solar plexus than Raiders getting the wooden spoon.

NRL . it's all too beautiful,

Been bugging me for days since his passing, but if anyone remembers the whole Duffer of st George/ Talkin' loud/Dingwalls acid jazz culture of the early 90's , all the Talkin' Loud label artists were heavily influenced by Roy Ayres..

Sampled to high heaven..

No sympathy at all for the depleted Roosters who spawned a fluke against the Green machine in the Grand Final of 2019, via having the ref in their back pocket . Not that i hold any grudge!

(Guardian Link Alert)
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/oct/07/nrl-defends-referees-despite-crazy

Their salary cap always seems more malleable than sally bercows multi speed non doctor strap fleurs-de-lys , How they can fit so many superstar players under the limit is a miracle of some wonder season after season.

Can't see past Brisbane, Storm and Penrith. Again. I reckon the sharks and the Bulldogs will have a good season, as will the tigers, comparatively speaking, as they have made some superb signings.

Interesting to see how lewis Dodd gets on at the rabbitohs, a fine player but doomed to fail imo with the toxicity there.

As for my lot, THe Raiders look out for Our fullback Keo weekes. winger Xavier savage and half Ethan Strange. Magic.

I reckon our usual 7th to 10th finish ,which given the young players in our squad will be reasonable. I think Canberra have a very bright future and will be a top four side again in the next couple of years.

Best sport on earth the NRL.. As Jonathan E said in 'Rollerball'.. 'I love this game Moonpie'!

I'm sure you NRL english fans already know but the following podcasts / you tube content are good;

bloke in a bar
6 tackles with Gus
Freddy and the eighth
Blake and the pork (Canberra raiders)

The Field Marshal of all Funk. Roy Ayers.

'He's a Superstar'.. I First heard this in the rare groove club 'the good, the bad and the ugly', next to Selfridges back in '87 as a 20 year old wet behind the ears essex funkateer, fed on the Tony Blackburn/Steve Walsh cud of baby milk formula radio London soul nights out.

Good clean family fun. With whistles.

I was Totally unprepared in every way for the Oort cloud top tier of the Funk and Soul elemental.

I almost passed out, overdosed on filthy raw funk tapped to the vein via roy's chugging bassline spawned from the 7th rung of hell.

No man born of gods 4th rib should have possessed such gifts that could render a man down to his knees at his funk/soul tabernacle.

A ridiculous track.. The funk keeps stacking until it's almost unbearable.

A Faraday cage of funk in totality.

He's A Superstar.. yeah.

Rest In Power.

Beatles..your favourite track..
at 23:13 28 Feb 2025

Back in the wilderness years , (before i re-trained for  6 years to become a  probation officer), as a non marine reinsurance broker/alcoholic/coke addict , i was at my 48th consecutive day of NA meetings ..

so there i was in the bermuda triangle of booze, gear, and bullshit city 1989--2008 sitting there mute. in a crumbling church at a na meeting..stupefied into silence by the demonic delusions of grandeur and ego of those in the semi circle with me earning £250,000+ in chalk stripe and gold card lunch expenses in leadenhall market.

at the end of the meeting feeling lower than Karen carpenter doing the limbo, the sponser pulled me aside and told me the story of' Dear prudence' by the beatles.

Humans are capable of great things. it changed my life. It will be played at my wedding. And i will remember where i was in 2008. people change, give them a second chance to prove it.

the Beatles cross the great divide of every generation.

of course. we understand. you feel. you feel beyond the plasma pool of simian understanding.

you're special. the rules don't apply to you. your special. especial.

we couldn't apprehend  the depth of the cut. you feel. more than man. hence why the leftist must spill his seed in great abundance in  perpetuity and in extremis on this forum.. even if it bores the living jolly green giant shit out of 75% of the collective.

you're special.
