OPPINIONS - the squad.

What about that Andy Haworth bloke? He didn't get on with Hilly I think, but he showed some real threat. Is he still with our Giggling friends?

For ADSL I'd get;

http://www.cclonline.com/product/30197/DGN1000-100UKS/ADSL-Routers/Netgear-DGN10

and for Cable I'd get;

http://www.cclonline.com/product/30680/WNR1000-100UKS/Cable-Routers/Netgear-WNR1

In a previous job I managed about 200 ADSL connections for various people and we used earlier Netgear models and they're solid as hell. Plus you get 802.11n support (think iPhone and some Android phones support this as well as most modern laptops and desktop PC Wi-Fi adapters)

If he was the complete package, he'd be at a bigger club than Dale. The fact is if he signs, we get a solid squad player with excellent work-rate, strength, pace and creativity for no transfer fee.

He's not going to lead the line like O'Grady did for us, but he's been consistently effective when played in various positions and never looked out of place in League One even in a team which was (lets be honest) pretty woeful for the majority of the time.

If he could start banging in a goal every other game, he'd be hot property at our level and might bring us some money next summer.

Andy Carroll scores
at 23:04 16 Jun 2012

On his day Andy Carroll looks unplayable to me. His move to Liverpool has been troubled because of the way they play and because of the woeful service he's received from Downing and Bellamy.

I'm not sure how I see him fitting into a "typical" Brendan Rodgers team either, if I'm honest. That said for England he's going to up against defenders who have never faced a player like him in their careers and if we can sack off Milner and get some pace and quality on the wings Andy should deliver. Hell, look at the scoring record of Peter Crouch and I rate Carroll as a far better player overall.

The foul was stupid, but he's only a young lad. That header he scored was as good as anything Shearer or Sheringham managed for England.

Stadium company - future threats
at 10:50 25 May 2012

I've often wondered whether teams could share staff costs. If clubs are within 20 miles then it might be possible to share administration staff and groundstaff as well as some coaching, physio, sports-science staff and so on.

There might be an potential for conflicts of interest of course.

Well done Chelsea
at 10:20 20 May 2012

I'm not a fan of Chelski, but I was supporting them last night. I think Drogba's goal was one of the best headed goals I've ever seen and it'll be a big loss to European football if he goes to China or Dubai or somewhere. I think he has to be in the top 3 of foreign imports to the Prem, up there with maybe Henry and Viera.

I couldn't give two short shits about Terry and Lampard who despite being adequate footballers have spectacularly failed at being respectable human beings. I am happy for Drogba and for RDM though and if that is Drogba's last kick of a ball in England, I think winning the ECL is a good way to do it!

I think Villas Boas is a good shout for Liverpool actually. Can't see them taking a punt on a young manager like Rodgers or Lambert. What about Moyes for Villa?

King Kenny leaves Liverpool
at 09:04 17 May 2012

I reckon Ferdinand hasn't gone because he's a crock who has played way too many games this season because of the injury to Vidic. Not that I think he couldn't do a job but Lescott has been immense this season and Cahill has shown some glimpses also. I'm going to give Roy some credit and say this is a pragmatic footballing decision.

I also understand the inclusion of Carrol but the fact he's gone for only 4 strikers with Carrol being one (and the suspended Rooney being another) suggests to me he's going to look to play one up-front, at least in the trickier ties. Not sure what I think about this.

The inclusion of Downing and Glenn Johnson is nothing short of an embarrassment and a slap in the face to right-thinking England fans everywhere.

Speaking specifically about Dalglish I think he's a petty-minded, arrogant, whiny little tit who is 20 years out of date, disrespectful of other managers, journalists, reporters and fans and who has a massive persecution complex and who makes my skin crawl whenever he's on the telly. He's not taken Liverpool forward and with deals needing to be done quickly before the European Championships start I think it's a great decision to get rid. My only hope now is that Sky don't pick him up to replace Gary Neville!

European Championship - Who would you take?
at 09:17 15 May 2012

I'm predicting no surprises at all;

Hart
Green
Carson (I know, I know...)

Walker
Ferdinand
Terry
Cole
Jones
Richards
Baines
Lescott
Cahill (if fit) or Shawcross

Parker
Gerrard
Lampard
Barry/Carrick
Cleverley/Milner

Walcott
Young
Rooney
Welbeck
Carroll
Crouch

I don't see our starting XI being much different to the team we took to South Africa.

Whose next for ending their barren run
at 09:59 14 May 2012

I think both Mignolet and Paddy Kenny had pretty solid games in goal yesterday. Even Jake Kean looked half-decent! I was less convinced by Fulop though...

In terms of barren streaks, how about Germany for the Euros? Not won a major tournament since 1996 and they've got some quality through the squad and some young players who got great experience in South Africa. 10/3 seems a bit short for a punt though. England are out at twelves and could be worth a few quid, but I'll wait for the squad announcement I think.

is there one person who can put logik behind our released list and make it sound good
at 09:28 14 May 2012

I think I must be the only person on here who thinks BBM still has something to offer, especially at League Two level. He's the only player we have who is willing to put their foot on the ball and look to control the tempo of a game. I love Jonah and Kennedy as much as the next Daley, but neither of them are really the "controlled possession" type.

I think used properly in front of the back four as cover/playmaker BBM can play 20-30 games for us in L2 next year and be a big player.

Joey Barton
at 09:24 14 May 2012

I reckon this is one of those times where it's gone beyond any excuses of "frustration" or "tortured genius" or whatever. If he doesn't end up with a minimum of a ten-game domestic ban, I think the FA need to seriously look at the message they are sending to young players starting out in this sport.

The fact that the reaction from Tevez was a joke, while deplorable, doesn't detract from the fact that Joey Barton is a massive, massive tool who seems determined to destroy his career. I think perhaps the FA should be looking to end his career for him before he does it to another player.

Incidentally he posted on Twitter a couple of times that he tried to "take one of their players with me" which I think should be enough evidence for an assault charge for the stamp on Aguero.

Expectation's for Rochdale Season 2012/2013
at 00:50 9 May 2012

Got to expect a rebuilding job and you've got to give JC time to work some magic and get the right players in. I'm thinking anything from about 10th upwards would represent a really strong season.

I've honestly got no idea about potential signings, although we might learn more when the release/retain list is made public.

Game I'm most looking forward to is the away day at Fleetwood. Games I'm not looking forward to (and probably won't be at) are any and all games in London!

Not too fussed about the cups if I'm honest, but it'd be great to progress far enough in the FA cup or League cup to get a big club to Spotland. Would be nice to have a full house and a great atmosphere, even for just one game.

My main wish is for a tall, wide, ugly, dominant centre-back and maybe a tall, wide, ugly, dominant centre-forward! :D

Pablo Counaga is worth a one-season deal on a free at the start of the game. I'm also a fan of getting Ehmer on loan from QPR for the first season. You can also pick up Gael Bigirimana on a free from Coventry (sometimes anyway) for about £1000 a week and he's class.

There's a Ghanaian centre-back/def-mid called Eric Addo as well who is on amateur terms at (I think) Eindhoven. He wants lots of money and he is prone to sulking but he's as good as any CB in League One and is gettable as Dale.

If you can get Michael Stewart to sign up (centre-mid) he's very good, but I generally get beaten by bigger clubs like Huddersfield when I try to get him. Had him a couple of times though and he did very well.

The only "wonderkid" on this list is Bigirimana but I don't generally buy young players at the start as the regens after the first season or two are generally better and cheaper.

I rate Nicky and I think that on balance he's done well for Dale and while he's had a poor 2011/12 I think we could say that about pretty much everyone at the club (and not just the players).

I'd sad but not surprised that he's asked to leave and I don't think he'll have any problem getting a deal with a League One club. I just hope we can get a decent amount for him to help JC build his team for next season.

Thanks Nicky and good luck!

Failure to replace key players has got to be the answer here. I reckon Eyre could have kept us up with Dawson, O'Grady, Dagnall and Wiseman in the squad and I don't think Hillcroft could have kept us up with the squad we had this season.

Of course it's possible that if Hillcroft had stayed on we wouldn't have lost those players or they'd have been adequately replaced.

Who do you think will go?
at 15:33 25 Apr 2012

Sorry for the late reply, bloody work!

I don't think any of the below, but I do think that both Adams and Grimes are capable of playing to a L1 standard in the right system and with the right management and motivation. In our current situation I reckon JC would love to have players of that quality and the chance to work with them and get them playing to their potential. If nothing else it's potential transfer money in the bank.

The alternative is we get rid and bring in proven, unspectacular non-league plodders on free transfers. No Dale player will ever be the finished article because they'll be sold or leave long before that.

I think both Adams and Grimes have had a poor season and that both need to work harder and begin to reach their potential. I'd rather they did that under JC at Dale than at some other club.

Anyway, it's only an opinion :D
