New Away kit .
at 10:20 25 Jun 2024

I think the trim is a reference to Marti Cifuentes and his team. When he joined, part of his team building was to have a karaoke night where he kicked it off by singing Bob Marleys three little birds (don't worry about a thing) where the team gave him the nickname Bob Marti. Xavi Calm sang Karma Chameleon which may be the source of the red, gold and green.

I don't have X so can't read the replies however I assume some people still believe what Joey said?

When people were saying that it's ironic that he's in more trouble for this than his violence I don't see it myself. I'd much rather he physically attacked me and I had an opportunity to defend myself. He's basically making up stuff about Jeremy Vine and his followers believe him and it's likely to linger around longer than bruises, so I see it as equally as damaging.

Leaving loftus road...
at 18:56 19 Jun 2024

Even then I don't think there's enough space for a new stadium. Using Loftus Road as a guage it would be tight to fit the same in that location and ideally we'd want a slightly bigger plot for leg room, access and corporate/conference facilities.

The barracks + exhibition close flats would be ideal. You can see sold house prices on Rightmove for those two roads, so definitely some if not all privately owned which makes it as likely as buying the houses on Ellerslie road. Imre Close there are no sold house prices, as they use land registry records for these I think it safe to say that they are still owned by the council.

I still suspect that the council would rather get our football stadium out of a residential area though, but time will tell.

In a best case scenario where Imre Close is council owned and the school moves and sells the plot to us, we could propose to shift the stadium towards the school and if acceptable to the council demolish their housing and provide more housing back to them to fit around our stadium plans.

The question for me is whether they would want that, the local plan suggests that they want houses there if we move and I get the feeling that a stadium in a residential area isn't ideal. I assume demolishing houses on ER would also be seen as a reduction in housing in the borough and again frowned upon.

I think the neatest solution is the school and Imre close, if possible. Failing that the only other viable site would be the Latimer Upper playing fields.

Now I'm really confused because earlier I thought it was suggested we were doing better than other countries because of Brexit, now we're worse off because of net zero targets. Can't be bothered and if we are worse off how much of that is due to net zero and how much is Brexit?

I think the biggest error we've made as a nation was in 2010 when the lib dems wanted to invest in green energy to make us a world leader. But that was the era of austerity being the solution and investment being a waste of money. I've recently looked into solar panels and batteries for our house and most of the PVs come from china, one company offered us Spanish PVs. The batteries were all Chinese and one of the companies only set up in 2019.

Transfer rumours 2024
at 11:07 16 Jun 2024

The real question might be, is he significantly better than Walsh, to justify the additional cost.

Last Season
Begovic - goals prevented -7.8
Travers - goals prevented -0.6 (on loan at Stoke)

Leeds got into the playoffs with a goalkeeper on goals prevented of -4.5 and the best performing goalkeeper at Leicester got +6.7.

In the one game Walsh played he got a goals prevented score of +0.9. It's a small sample size but assuming he can stay at that level he shouldn't be too far off Travers. Would certainly hope he could keep it respectable enough to not impact the team negatively.

I would imagine Travers would be better over a full season but possibly not by that much. So to be honest, I'd be happy to start the season with Walsh, Mahoney and Salamon with one of Salamon or Mahoney going on loan.

Who's funding these other scientists then?

There's certainly many established multi billion dollar companies that have a vested interest in continuing as we are.

We can actually have successful vineyards in Kent now, unheard of when I was a kid.

As Essex points out, the environment will change naturally including things like coastal erosion that causes cliffs to collapse. As humans once we're comfortable with the environment we don't want it to change. So we put measures in place to stop or slow things like coastal defences with erosion. As a society coastal defences don't get the same negative view as reducing carbon emissions.

I was slightly confused by Essex when he says mother nature will act to protect itself by wiping us out. If we're not the source of the issue then why would mother nature wipe is out?

To your main point about fear, should we also reject the fear promoted around immigration? Seems to be the source of all our problems according to some, I would call that acting to scare us, don't you agree?

Armstrong extended
at 22:54 14 Jun 2024

Is it possible we've triggered it as a stop gap, I assume negotiations with Armstrong were dragging on and he was reaching the end of his contract, so we've triggered the extension to stop him running out of contract while we're negotiating.

It's possible that we're still negotiating a longer term deal and they may not be that far apart but we've needed to extend just to buy us some time to get it completed. Would explain the lack of fanfare if we're hoping for a bigger announcement in a few months. Well, that's what I'm hoping anyway.

I broadly agree with what you said, would add doesn't score enough. However the major caveat is that the positives can't be trained into a player whereas you can work on the negatives. You're never going to get dykes as fast as Armstrong no matter how well you train him. We could possibly get Armstrong to make better runs or improve his first touch or even time his jumps better to win headers. That's why I personally still have hope for Armstrong despite his performances not being outstanding.

I hope this is and stays just a rumour.

I really want him to stay too, I'm hopeful he will for another season as well. I just think that sticking to the plan shouldn't make the team worse, we got better as a team after selling Freeman and Eze as well because we lost the star but used it to strengthen the whole squad. Brentford kept selling and buying cheap and ended up picking up players like Tony who are much better than the players they sold before.

If/when Marti leaves the only way we're going to persuade another decent coach to come here and to stay is if we're well run, so sticking to the plan should be the priority.

That's exactly what we did for Beale and why we had so much financial pain last season. Personally I think we stick to our plan and sell players we need to cash in on. I don't see why that would be an issue for Marti, clubs like Brentford did that year after year and got better. If anything it's an opportunity for Marti to rebuild the squad, if he's not up for that then perhaps it's best we find someone who is.

I thought Farage was the anti-establishment choice, but it sounds like he's just as bad as all the other career politicians. He's stood for election in a number of seats in his time, from the outside it looks like he goes where the polls tell him rather than where he has a local connection, another trait of a career politician.

'Marquee' Rs signings who were (successful) 'statements of intent'
at 09:48 8 Jun 2024

Adel Taarabt gets my vote. Was on loan prior to signing permanently, was a highly thought of prospect who instantly turned into one of the best players in the championship and was often the driving force for the team that won us the league.

Pubs would have to carry on being pubs and serving their community, they wouldn't have the choice to sell up and make millions. - Not if they aren't making money, you'd need some sort of market intervention to prop up ailing pubs just so they're there for the community. Loads of pubs have closed around Medway and most of them were mostly empty before they closed.

Also disagreeing with you isn't hating my own nation or culture however much you might think it is, so I'll leave it there.

I'd also say choosing to close a profitable pub to build flats to make more money quickly is also a result of capitalism, if not, certainly greed.

P.s I chose dominos as they set up in a former pub opposite where I used to live. Presumably more demand for overpriced pizza than pints, perhaps that's part of the problem.

It's not deflection, just pointing out that profitable businesses don't usually get shut down and their premises used for other things. You said that the community was suffering from these closures but seemingly not enough of the community was using them to keep them as viable businesses. To me that's broadly the result of capitalism, isn't it?

The two words that stand out for me in your post is "your side".

Anyway weren't pubs, chippies and hardware stores destroyed by capitalism with large companies like spoons, dominos and b&q taking their trade?
