I think Laudrup was sacked, mainly because of the disagreements between himself and HJ ...
HJ (the board) and Laudrup were disagreeing in regards to transfers.
It was a power move by the board (HJ). The West Ham game just provided a reaonable excuse in my opinion. Had they (HJ) waited, and it turned out Swansea wasn't going to be relagated and still in contention in the FA Cup aswell as in the EL, HJ would have a difficult time justifying sacking Laudrup.
The relationship between Laudrup and HJ was bound for collision, seeing as HJ still wants to exert influence on the transfers, regardless if targets are being targetted who lies within the budget.
Laudrup as a manager wants total influence, which is (probably) why they couldn't come to terms ...(?)
If Swansea wants (truly) to rise to the "next" level, the Board (Huw Jenkins) need to realize that it will require a broader squad, and probably also a higher wagestructure ... Along with giving a possible new manager the final decision on transfers.
Unless the current constellation with "just having" a HC is what HJ (the Board) wants, that Way HJ will retain influence on transfers ... |

Part of that amount is also a compensation for terminating the (renewed) contract before time ...
According to several Danish newspapers (citing English sources) there will be legal proceedings, as it is alleged Swansea seems to be trying to find an out and not pay Laudrup his severance package ...
In some ways this sacking seems like a "power-play", and seemingly what has been said by the board (according to some media) is not corelating with what has actually been done ...
Installing Garry Monk as HC seems to confirm this ... |

It would only seem as if Swansea was looking to have gone from bad to worse, if you look at the stats as is, without context ... I picked those teams out, because those are (most) of the teams Swansea has been facing recently in a row in the PL ...
Keep in mind almost all those listed teams have used significant amounts of cash to reinforce their squads from season to season ... Amounts of cash Swansea couldn't even begin to dream about ...
Swansea's from hasn't been "poor blooming" for nearly a year as you state, however, most would have taken into consideration competing in both the EL aswell as the PL would put a strain on a rather small squad such as Swanseas, that relies heavily on their starting 11 ...
I would consider it a panic reaction, since the board and Laudrup has been "at odds" about reinforcing the squad ever since last year ... especially regarding what type of players ...
The overall census among (most) board members is alluded to be that if a player can play in the Premiership, they are good enough for Swansea ... whereas their (former now sacked) manager had a different opinion ...
Point being about listing those stats is that most of those 7 teams are almost always competing for top 6 in the PL year in and year out (with the exception of Man United this season ...) and to expect much more than those 12 points they managed to get in the 2011-12 season is wishful thinking ... - Not saying that Swansea should concede every game, however ... But just look at those squads and the players, then compare them to Swanseas squads and those players Swansea are able to afford/attract ... |

I'm surprised that Laudrup was sacked at this point, but I guess it was foreseeable ... However it looks alot like a panic-move ... And in some ways the results of a board director who wants to affirm his power i.e telling the public that he is still the one "calling the shots" ...

Also consider the amount of injuries to the primary players in the starting line-up ...
This sacking still has me scratching my head ... - What is it that HJ (the board) is wanting ? Winning the PL ??? Because winning a trophy and still being able to contend with a diminished squad, in 2 Cups aswell as still having a good chance to stay in the PL seems not to be good enough ?

I'm not disputing the fact that Swansea has already spent a good deal of Money, nor am I disputing that the return on the cash spent so far has been somewhat "disappointing" so far. However, having success in the Europa League and prioritizing that A bit higher at the moment in my opinion, is quite understandable, even though I can understand the desiré of the more avid fans, that Swansea should / could compete equally well in the EPL, it's just difficult given the size and monetary situation of a club with Swansea's current stature ... |

Problem is alot of fans seem sometimes to succumb to some megalomanic tendencies and think that their team should be able to play "better" and compete "better", despite having a tough schedule ... If HJ really thinks his team should aim as High as he alluded in his interview, then perhaps more funds should be made available ?
As the OP states; having to play both in Europe aswell as in the EPL each week will take it's toll, and Swansea has been doing pretty good so far ... |

I really only see 3-4 potential clubs in Europe, ML would want to manage ..., so ML leaving after this season isn't something I would bank really 😉
*IF* (notice a HUGE IF) Swansea manages to finish higher than last season and IF they can win another Cup and thus Secure another Euro adventure, I' not so sure ML would leave ... And especially not if the funds keep Coming ... |
