I was at this game and thought it was much tighter than the result indicated. I think with a decent striker, Brentford could have made the game much closer. I saw at least 3 very important potential goal saving tackles from Clint Hill often with him at full stretch to the point that I was concerned he would injure himself. Another great performance from him.
I expect Hoilet is playing to impress not just us, but prospective new employers which is a shame as he could have made such a difference if he played with this quality during the whole of his stay at LR. I suppose even if he has 'turned a corner' we won't be able to afford to renew his contract.
Phillips was not an obvious presence in this game and without offering anything in attack made his lack of covering at the back even more of a luxury we can't and shouldn't afford. I thought he should have been swapped for Luongo much earlier than Luongo's eventual appearance, although it may be Luongo is playing back in after injury.
A great game though and about time we won a London derby thanks to great effort by the team in general. |

Clive I'm so glad you've highlighted the problem that our fans give to the players and management. I'm convinced our failure in recent times is contributed to by such negativity from our supposed supporters. Do they think slagging off the current team and management will encourage better players and managers to join our club? Anything less than instant success is not to be tolerated. Players added to the team at low cost are expected to play like Messi and never make a mistake and God help them if they do. I appreciate Ramsey was also the inexpensive option as manager, but how many expensive managerial supposed superstars have failed before.
Ramsey is to some extent learning how to be a manager, but I'm glad you've highlighted the good decisions he made in this game which suggests to me he is coming along quite well. Of course not in the eyes of some of our football expert fans who haven't really got a clue, but always seem to think they know best about everything and aren't restricted by fitness issues or limited by the cost of players or managers they would bring in to replace those trying to do their best for QPR despite being slagged off at every turn. It is time these fans considered whether they want QPR to progress and improve in a gradual way or if they just want the regular excitement of changing players and managers so they can find new ways to destroy them. |

I'm glad to hear Jamie Mackie back. It was also interesting to hear his comments about the first pre-season with Warnock, which I thought was excellent as it demonstrated how together the team were then. This pre-season has been so poor I don't think we can read much into individual performances, like Poulter's as he must think he's joined a shambles and I hope organisation back at base has been better. Its really important this team get that togetherness that enabled the Warnock team to perform better than the sum of its parts. That may take a bit of time. |

Well the SWP thing at Man City shows either Ramsey doesn't know about the fans low opinion of SWP or more likely he does and wanted to show he would do the right thing based on his values rather than what the fans think. In the longer run this might be a good thing. Perhaps if Ramsey had been the Head Coach all the time that several players degraded by their time at QPR, that degradation may not have happened and SWP could have been a hero rather than a villain. For me its clear that a good coach backed by good footballing people in management is what QPR have lacked and hopefully will now have. Its important to realise that the process we are now starting will take time to yield results and will require patience, support and understanding from the fans. Whatever the pros and cons of the particular appointments are, more importantly, the club now has a plan and are trying to install correct values in performance and behaviour. Even if the personnel fail (which I really hope they don't) its vital we retain the plan. |

I agree with most of this article, but I think we need to know what division we will be playing in before we make an appointment for next season. I still think Ramsey would be a good long term choice for all the reasons Neil gives. Let's face it he can't do much worse than the previous two and the reason they went wrong was in trying to buy short term success. The question is, have we the fans and the owners got enough patience to allow the long term transformation required for our club to have a sustainable ethos which has a good chance of leading to success. |

Clive one of you most incisive pieces. I think many of our home games under Redknapp were won against poor opposition and now we are meeting better teams at home it's harder for the fans to make enough difference. It really would be something if we win today and I think the best we can expect is a good performance that keeps the good feeling going into games where we have a better chance of winning. We can hope for better than that.
The spirit and results of better coaching may have come too late and it demonstrates that if TF had been more ruthless and sacked Redknapp earlier we would have had far more chance of staying up. When you see the improvement in Phillips it makes me wonder if Much could have been transformed back to the player we thought we bought under this improved regime. I hope enough QPR fans are counteracting Redknapp's media love-in by letting the world, know what a crap manager he really is. |

Thanks Clive it was as bad as people say then. If Tony Fernandes is dreaming of filling a 40,000 + stadium he needs to re-build QPR's reputation as a team worth watching. He needs to tell Redknapp if he continues deliberately sending out badly prepared teams he will be sacked. Surely talk of a contract extension is some kind of sick joke and disrespects the fans who are watching and supporting this crap. I gave the management the benefit of believing their intentions and renewed my season ticket, but despite what they say they still don't seem to have a clue and I'm already wondering if its worth going on Saturday. If it continues like this I and many other will be abandoning QPR as a lost cause after more years than I care to remember. Even at our lowest league position it was never as bad as this. I long for the days when lowly, plucky, well-liked QPR could surprise any team with good battling play. Now we seem to be the opposite of all those things |

I stand by what I said and pleased Clive quoted it, but there is always a risk, although even a 22 year old signing can have a season ending injury in their first game. Rio is different class to Bosingwa, SWP and others who have failed at the end of their careers at QPR and I think genuinely wants to play for us. It is that last factor that was missing from the others and I hope makes the difference for Rio on the pitch and how he is seen by the fans. |

Great write up. Apart from what you say about inconsistency in selection our playing style was boring and unadventurous, quite different from what I had expected from Redknapp. He may say he had a lot to do and could only play the way the players he had dictated, but I really hope that changes in the coming season. |

I noticed Clint Hill was often found further up the pitch than normal which meant he had a lot of tracking back to do, so I'm not surprised he felt a few twinges at the end.
Keane was a disappointment to me and should be aware of more than one option. He's not a 15 year old and needs to be much sharper if he is ever going to make it. I think Morrison has every right to expect a player given that position to be competent and Keane wasn't. |

What we are learning is that Harry's style and type of management is no longer good enough when he comes up against up to date technical management skills. Harry still has something to offer, but not as head coach. Now is the time to get a competent well qualified coach to work alongside Harry, before its too late. It needs to be someone with credibility and enthusiasm who can assert himself and ensure we send our team out properly prepared to face their opponents. If at the end of the season we are unsuccessful in our attempt for promotion, which is looking likely the way things are going, then Harry's time at QPR will have been a failure. If his shortcomings are dealt with now he could still finish the season as a success and look forward to a couple of years as DOF. |

I'm glad we all agree Clint Hill was MOM and we all value him highly, but for a defender in his mid thirties to be our best player says everything about the others and the way they were set up by the manager. I had a very good view of Clint's header off the line and it was a certain goal if he hadn't been there and we would have lost this game as we generated very few clear scoring chances. Is this what QPR have become - a boring outfit grinding out drab no-score draws at home? If that is it I and many others will find they have many more interesting things to do than watch it. |

Harry has decided that his ego demands that any player who is any good and who was introduced before his tenure cannot stay at the club, unless they are so old and worn out they will be highlighted as inadequate. Expect all players like Mackie, Faurlin etc to go. I'm beginning to think HR is more concerned with his reputation than he is about the success of QPR. The Mackie situation also calls HR's 'so called brilliant man management' into question as he has made it clear he doesn't rate Mackie and wants him out which has undermined his performances. In that situation its best for Mackie to leave to go where his commitment will once again be appreciated. When HR and TF say they only want 'the right sort', these actions just prove they are talking b*llocks. How are we expected to believe another word they say? |

The situation well summarised. Bosignwa was always going, so the most depressing reading is the attitude of the people left at the club. In particular Harry Redknapp. It seems everything he does is done to make him look good rather than to benefit QPR and this is getting a bit wearing. I know there are players that need to be kicked out and so does HR and the owners, but he wastes valuable match practice time playing them just to prove they are useless, when other players and QPR would benefit in their place. I don't understand what HR has against Ale Faurlin, is it just that he didn't buy him? I have always been pro - Harry, but his recent antics are beginning to make me reconsider. |

As far as his attitude with team-mates is concerned I think anyone at Wolves would be having a go at them the way they have performed. By being stripped of the captaincy, that probably puts him on the wrong side of the argument from the others there, although it can't just be Henry to blame for their demise. I hope his new opportunity with us will enable him to put that behind him and perform at the top of his ability even if as he accepts it is limited.
As for Barton's opinion of him - we have all seen what a thug Barton can be long after the event on the pitch that aggravated him, so I'm inclined to ignore that. All the tackles and aggressive play from Henry are no more than I've seen from Alan MacDonald who was a particular hero of mine and many at QPR.
I rather hope he will turn out to be what we need in that position alongside Ale Faurlin, who we would be mad to offload |
