DSLR cameras
at 20:48 1 Oct 2015

What are you using it for...video or as an actual still shot camera? If you're primarily doing videos I would recommend an actual video camera. Something like a Canon Vixia HF series, something like an M52 or G20 would be right around the range your looking for. I filmed an entire full length film last year using nothing but a Canon M52 and an old DV camcorder, so I know it'll work.

Unfortunately if your primary purpose is to take photos I couldn't help you there, but I'm sure someone more familiar with DSLR's could help.

How Americans Pick Their European Football Teams
at 18:09 24 Aug 2015

I've probably said this a few times already...oh well. I don't really remember having a "choice" per say, I went to my first game in 1991 at the Vetch when I was 11 years old...we lost 3-0 to Exeter if memory serves me correctly. Anyhow, I have a lot of family in Wales and in particular the Swansea/Pontarddulais area, so my grandfather used to take me to games whenever we would travel there.

I was pretty much hooked from that point on.

Problems with the club online shop...
at 14:06 25 Jun 2015

Is anyone else having problems with the club online shop? Every time I go to send payment for my order (the two new shirts) I'm re-directed to the ticketing office and unable to actually make a payment.

Favorite is probably a fully signed team photograph from the 1932 season. Got it from my grandfather and has Wilf Milne, Syd Lawrence, etc. on it. Another is my 1952/3 signed team photo with Ivor and the rest.

Most recent would be Trundle's match worn shirt from back in 2007...it's the super rare Macron Yellow/Green shirt we only wore in a handful of games. I also have Monk's worn shirt from 2008...the Green/Black striped one.

That's a good point. The ability to perform marriages can be granted to anyone who files the proper paperwork. When my wife and I got married, we had a Wiccan priestess who was also a Christian minister perform the wedding and marry us. My wife, who has the same twisted sense of humor as I do, only chose a Wiccan because we thought it would be funny to see how some of our more religious family members would react. Neither of us really cared one way or another, but secretly did it just for the laughs.

Yeah, I can't wait to move there. I run ultramarathons (usually 50 to 100 mile races) and Colorado is great for trail running and outdoor activities, and considering most ultras are mountain races it's a perfect fit.

I'd love to see a match in the Premier League. I've been on our American tours, but my last actual match in the UK was a 2-1 loss against Lincoln City...boy how times have changed. LOL

Now that was funny...just nearly spit all over my monitor!

It was created, but the name was naturally selected by the founders...we are a strictly non-prophet group.

Funny you say that, I live in a suburb of Wichita actually...lol. I'm planning to move to Colorado at some point for several reasons, one being the religious thing and the other being the mountains.

I used to spend summers in Wales, as my grandfather is from the Swansea area and a good amount of the rest of my family are Welsh. Some of my family actually founded a small village in Kansas called Bala Powys many years ago. As for Wales, unfortunately, I was last there in 2001, but remember being around Pontarddulais, FForestfach and pretty much all over West Glamorgan and Carmarthenshire. I don't post much on here, but I was actually with this board back when it was on the old rivals site and my username was AmericanSwanseaFan.

Yep, that's pretty much the low down on it. Here is the "official" site:

Might help show the reasoning behind the creation of the "church".

Yeah, I hear you! Why individuals, regardless of sex or gender, can't share in the same benefits as the rest of humanity is beyond my reasoning. In my state (Kansas, by the way) two people of the same sex cannot be legally married, but our state just passed a law that people now don't even need permits to carry and conceal firearms. There are a lot of really good things about America, but this type of drivel drives me insane.

Yes, I'm legally able to marry two people, and yes, in the United States. I did it more as an alternative for people (usually atheists) who wanted something different in their ceremony. I'm an atheist myself, but have a lot of respect for the charitable work many religious institutions conduct, but where I live we are bombarded with it so I do get a little tired of the hyper-religious holier than thou types. I guess it's just my small way of counteracting those types, even if it's just a small minority.

LOL...I'm actually a member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster myself. In fact, I'm an ordained minister in the church and am registered to perform wedding ceremonies.

Yes, the whole thing is a bit of a "joke" and more about making a point than anything, or just showing how ridiculous religion is. However, it's not the first time someone has "earned" the right to wear the colander, so I'm pretty sure he's just trying to have his 15 mins. of fame.

Jack swan issue #34 - Is cover too controversial?
at 21:54 24 Feb 2015

How is the cover not a dig at the United States...it's a picture of our flag burning? Seems quite to the point if you ask me, and obviously what most others think as well.

As for taking "offense", so far, I believe two of us Americans have replied that you can do whatever you want. I don't feel "offended" at all. Tasteless, yes. Offended, no.

Tummer pretty much sums it up. I don't particularly care for it, but whatever floats your boat I guess...

I will say as someone whose been supporting Swansea since 1991 I personally find it rather disappointing that someone who issues a magazine would stoop to that level. I'm against American ownership of the club as well, even though I'm American myself, and what corporate America stands for and what that flag stands for are two totally different things.

However, it's your call. I've enjoyed your magazine and will continue to either way.

Straw poll from newbie Swanfan: where does Sat rate since YOU have been a fan?
at 16:53 18 Aug 2014

Happy to hear another American fan has caught the bug. The United result was definitely up there with my favorites, maybe top 10 or so. I've been a fan since 1991 and as far as results since I've been around...

1-1 Huddersfield (3-1 pens.) 1994 Autoglass - first bit of success I actually remember.
4-2 Hull 2003- that James Thomas chip for the 4th still gives me goosebumps!
0-1 Bury 2005
4-2 Reading 2011- probably the only football game that's ever made me sob like a baby.
3-0 Cardiff 2014 - just to do them over in the Prem was bliss.

this season.......
at 20:36 21 Jul 2014

I say this technically being a "foreigner" myself, but I think there are a few contributing factors with this...and it's not fully the foreign contingency. We're in the top flight now, and that in and of itself tends to treat players like a protected species as you say, as well as the officials giving out yellows and reds for every minor tackle and foul as if the players were leg breaking thugs. Granted, a larger foreign base tends to bring with it different cultural norms that might be more acceptable in those cultures (ie. diving), but I think it really has more to do with worldwide exposure of the top flight, the TV cameras, etc.

On another note, I'd like to see us bringing through youth more often or at least going after British based talent, than seeking what usually tend to be foreign mercenaries who don't get the culture of football in the UK as well. Hence why we only have a few foreign players like Rangel who have been with us for more than 1 or 2 seasons.

14/15 Home shirt for sale cheaper than shop
at 19:01 30 Jun 2014

Hey guys, I have the new Home shirt for sale at a discounted price in Men's Medium if anyone is interested. I live in the United States, and since we don't have to pay VAT over here I'm selling it on eBay for the 38.00 I paid for it. There is a shipping cost however, which is still lower than what the club shop charges. I bought the shirt and it's a bit small for me even though I usually wear Medium, so I'm only trying to recoup what I paid for it. Also, I can provide proof of sales from the club shop if you have reservations about authenticity.

I'm a long time Swansea fan...some of you may remember my old username back on the old Rivals forum as "AmericanSwanseaFan" and I've been a Jack since 1991, so I'm not here to rip anyone off, just thought someone might be interested in getting a shirt for somewhat less than UK residents normally have to pay.

Official Pre season Tour - USA
at 16:44 15 May 2014

Great, I went on the last tour and looking forward to this one. Having lived in the Indianapolis/Chicago area before I can tell you all there's a ton of things to see/do while you're there. Hopefully, we'll get a few more of us American fans to attend this time...still hard to believe after years in the basement divisions that anyone over here has even heard of us.
