You're right , the belittling aspect of the words used are wrong. I think what triggered my reaction here was of someone today who had lost a court case for being called a taff-'its on the BBC Wales website . I didn't bother reading it as to me taff is non derogatory. |

Maybe. Our conditioning forms us . agreed? I was seeing an Iranian girl , a dentist circa 1997, and i used to go to her house. Her father had converted from Islam to Christianity. . he had a fatwa on him as a result. He was a decent man. One thing he told me stuck in my mind . make no mistake about it, he said, Islam is out to take over the world. [Post edited 6 Sep 2014 0:00]

Good valid point . I think the base nature of a lot of people in general are confusing racism (colour) , with an ideology (Islam) there is a difference. If I was to make a sweeping statement like ' I don't like Muslims ' , it's not that I perhaps didn't like the ethnicity of the majority of Muslims (Asian), its that I just don't like the power struggle (ideological ) chain reaction its setting off. I detest coronation street , but I imagine the family in question are not shown praying to Mecca in every episode This thread had nothing to do with Islam did it ? Or did it ? The one Indian I know lives on the end house , and we were chatting recently and I told him I'd been staying up in small heath in Birmingham and I was one of only 3 white people I saw that evening. I said I'd found it scary. I was a minority. I asked him if he was Muslim and he laughed and said catholic. Coronation street eh. Shite [Post edited 5 Sep 2014 23:52]

Devils advocate ... What's the difference between using the term p*** (short for Pakistani), or say taffs.? I'm not defending bovi as he comes across as a bit of a knob. Language loses its power to offend if its contextually understood ? I've always found this odd really. I accept that words like ni*ger are deeply hateful due to the treatment of blacks as slaves. But Pakistani people have not suffered to the same degree at the hands of the whites ? If I'm honest I don't know many Indian folk really , though I have had good west Indian friendships. Would I call someone s p*** though ? No I guess I just answered my own question

I stayed up small heath bIrmingham few weeks back , only for couple nights for work. I only saw two other white people when i went to get food. The asda had a banner 'everything you need for ramadam'. There were hostie elements to this place for sure. Saying that, the whore i shagged for 60 bucks on st benedicts rd was extremely pleasant . id certainly go again [Post edited 3 Sep 2014 7:53]

Steven Harris from derwen fawr , he played Canadian leg with guns and roses. Also known as kid chaos he was with the cult for a while but started with zodiac mindwarp. Has retrained as a Dr in new York these days. He was on front page of post years back as got married down the Gower. |

This is a personal benchmark, the last band I could listen to over and over and over was nirvana (never mind). Using you tube I've had the same gravitas to choice songs of hers that appear across 3 albums. I admire the way she can look sexy as hell, plain as chips , and anything in between. Her technical ability on the guitar is well beyond average . her independence in creativity is also a slap in the face of produced xfactoresque marketing . her flaws just seem to enhance her attraction. |

I'd assumed that was her daughter she appears on fold the cloth. The intimacy between them is so I'd thought they were mother and child. Very talented woman though, and not the sort of thing I'd expected to be drawn to. I have liked PJ Harvey but as a rule not drawn to female artists |
