Re "Cheers rob. Not the first time he’s been horrible to another supporter of the club he supports. Oh well can’t get along with everyone. Hope you are all well pal."

Hi. I don't know why you continue to react to this K character! Having said that,! am one of the people you refer to and I must admit, it is hard to forget his behaviour. At the start of covid, I was sitting here in my lounge watching Dale play at Charlton. I made a comment on here and for some ridiculous reason he jumped to the conclusion that I was at the game!! Not only that, but he made up a further accusation that I do not wish to mention. Then in the weeks following, he and his sidekick at the time made up more ridiculous stories about me. I know this seems incredible, but one of them was that it would be good if I were to be thrown on a bonfire!!

He will deny all this of course, and I can't be bothered to look up the posts from years ago to prove him wrong. I very rarely post on here now. I also very rarely go to the Dale, despite having been a season ticket holder for many years - admittedly though that is mainly due to the football served up rarher than the bad taste I still have from this character's comments. Best wishes to you.

According to the Rochdale Edwin Waugh Dialect.Society., the renowned 19th century Lancashie dialect writer and poet, Edwin Waugh, who was born in Rochade, would have pronounced it"Woff".

Phew! "What might have been" cf "What is"!! Great game the Trust and the individuals we have to thank. The complaints re lack of info on the OS, although valid, fade into insignificance.

It's a terribe website. It's a guessing game trying to get to the match after you have paid and subscribed. It's hit or miss getting the right page. Writing to them is a waste of time too. Ifollow was bad enough!

Same here. I registered and subscribed for the match this afternoon, then wrote to them to ask how to get the game on. They simply referred me to the site, but no help whatesoever. I kept trying to get coverage from about 7.15 and each time emailed them to ask for help. Nothing forthcoming. Eventually at about 8.05, managed to get on, but no idea how I did it it - just hit or miss!!

All the best to you and your club. When I was a child, I lived in Heywood. My dad used to take me to Gigg Lane on Ribchester's coach. I remember the music for "Sports Report" coming on the radio when we got on the coach after the game. This was from the 1940's onwards I have always had an allegiance to the Shakers. I recall Dave Russell as manager, Quigley, Pearson, the Griffiths brothers Stuart Imlach (the father of the cyclist reporter) , Ray Pointer, John McGrath, Colin Bell, Alec Lindsay. I will probably remember many others tomorrow!!!

After I "fell out" with football, I came to live in Rochdale and, through my brother, developed an interest in the Dale. I was a season ticket holder for many years - until the last few years, when it became a burden watching them. Also, two contributors to the fans' board were unjustifiably very unkind to me a couple of years ago. Now I just come to the occasional game.

Perhaps the Shakers and the Dale will one day play each other in a league game, but I fear it will be too late for me! I intend to go to Gigg occasionally for old times' sake. Good luck to you and your club.

The way that Reedy reported it, it didn't seem to be from a corner, - " Clarke didn’t look to be offside and Downing certainly wasn’t because I think he put received the ball direct from a corner." - implying that Downing didn't take the corner. This says to me that it wasn't direct from a corner.

As I said, unfortunately I didn't see it. I can only go on what was said on here. I'll watch Quest later and perhaps get a better view. :)

Re -
"The rules are, if the ball is played backwards you can’t be offside, no matter where you are on the pitch".
I'm sorry, but I beg to differ. There is no mention in the laws of the ball being played backwards, sideways or forwards.

I didn't see the game due to having covid and having problems getting in to iFollow, so I didn't see the incident. I am simply disputing your premise.

I am assuming that he was in an offside position when the pass was made.
The following is a copy of the relevant part of the law.

2. Offside offence
A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched*
by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:
- interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by
a team-mate or .....

I'm guessing that, since he put the ball in the net, he did touch the ball.

This part of the laws was the same as it was when I was refereeing 45 years ago :)

Email banking scam alert
at 15:08 14 Dec 2021

Good advice, but something rung a bell with "straightaway", which prompted me to find the following from https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/phone-scams-and-cold-calls -

"You should wait for 20 minutes before you call your bank on a trusted phone number to check it out. This is because scammers are able to keep phone lines open. Whilst you think you are making a new phone call, the line is still open to the scammer who pretends to be a different person from your bank or the police. If possible, use a different phone or call somebody else in the meantime."
