Very good. Particularly enjoyed the Chair back injury incurred while carrying the QPR team last season and the Jack Mad Jack McMad Colback. That's someone with a keen insight into our players as well as LoL funny.
Good luck after tomorrow's match. I'd love to see you doing the great escape.
Thing is I know it's a PR exercise I prefer announcements being spread out. I don't think it makes sense to announce two on the same day, then a match day and then nothing for a week.
Much better to me to have the news separated over a week.
Absolutely right. We've struggled in the past when Smyth goes off because other teams push up to our halfway line and it's like the Alamo. Alfie's pace pushes them right back.
Sorry I might have misunderstood. I wasn't talking about actual squad numbers but positions the coaches use a number to describe. So in interviews announcing new players they'll say e.g. that his normal position is a six but he can play as an eight. But that may not be what you mean...
You're absolutely entitled to have the hump Dave, as is anyone else but it's not just about tomorrow in my view, which is why I supported Marti.
FA Cup third round just comes at a silly time when we've had a run of matches close to each other. I would've been worried about over-playing Smyth, Dunne and Morgan anyway. Losing them for one match is better than losing them to an injury like we just did with Cook.
So if we pick up points without muscle injuries over the next month that's Marti's rationale , not just tomorrow's result.
Obviously you and everyone else can still feel aggrieved but it's not all down to one match.
I agree. I just don't think Hayden is the second coming. Yes we need experience but not at the cost of stuffing FFP for the next two years. Has to be a balance.
I agree with this. How we're doing financially is a big factor.
If we can continue to bring in younger players with potential and avoid the disasters of the McClaren era when we brought in all those expensive old timers when it went tits up or the silly Johanssen/Austin year where we stuffed two FFP years subsequently then that's important too.
I think he's learning from some of the mistakes.
If he manages to keep Dunne and Kolli as well as Morgan that'll be a big plus point.
I'd say stick dependent on wages. I think he was good just before Christmas and then seemed to run out of puff. He's good at recovering the ball and does two tackles per match. He works hard off the ball and has pretty good passing stats which is important in a team that can be careless in possession. Would like to see a couple of goals and a couple more assists to really see him kick on.
IDK about the cup but it's 162 minutes in the league. Frey is 189 in comparison. Looking at the top scorers in the league, under 200 minutes is impressive. Both have good conversion rates too: 26% Frey; 27% Kolli. Frey is more effective defensively though and wins the ball back more.
I thought he looked positive last season and wasn't surprised with the new contract but alas he suffers from a recent scourge of midfielders that go missing. It's no good doing that neat control and pass when you're in space to then leave your mate to it when surrounded by three oppo players. Or not really do the closing down and tackling which you don't necessarily notice apart from when they play the other teams seems to have more space or even like they've got an extra player.
The thing about Morgan I noticed straight away was how involved he was right across the pitch. Really wanting to be involved. It's the very least you can offer as a young player.
He seems a nice lad though and technically sound so I hope it works out for him.
We thought that too. From October to mid-December I think he contributed a lot. In the Coventry match for instance he won ten out of ten duels including six tackles. He's got three assists and should probably have more if we were better at shooting - he puts in a fair amount of key passes.
He ran out of steam around mid-December but I'm sure he'll get his mojo back.
As far as I understand it Spurs didn't benevolently sell him on rather than add him to their puppy farm and loan him out. They dropped a brick and released him to our benefit.
Meanwhile Ashby will certainly have earned more at 18 but as you say Morgan will have learnt so much more already playing regularly at Championship level. Development football is nowhere near as fast or physical. You can see how even Varane has taken time to adapt and he was playing professional football before. Ashby and Madsen just don't seem to have been able to adapt.
I agree the hoovering up of players is an issue. Take Sam McCallum who was decent for us at LB before his injury. Hardly started for Norwich the following season - just 16 times - now at Sheffield Utd and hardly starts there. I thought he was a good prospect but how can he develop with such limited game time?
