| News Comment | Austin ends dire week on a high note — report at 04:52:57
Thanks Clive. Great report as always. I know marks are subjective but I thought Barton ran Fer and Green very close for man of the match. I would love to see his distance covered stats as he worked very hard to protect the back 4 and was largely successful at it. Cattermole was treading a very thin line and is a fool as you rightly say but I thought Wickham put in the worst foul of the game. Not the first half one on Isla which the crowd obviously thought was at least a yellow but a scissor tackle in the second half that,to me ,was a clear yellow and possibly even red. Not often you can say no-one was below par in our team but saturday was one of those rare days. |
| News Comment | McClaren's superior prep leaves Redknapp facing questions — report at 06:13:55
Derby were the better side in the first half mainly because of Harry's team selection. We were the better team in the second half. Neither side created much and a lucky disputed goal won it. I don't think we deserved anything from the game as the first half was so poor but ,in my opinion, there was much less between the sides than this report suggests. I like Hughes and think he has a good future but was he really " exceptional " and a "joy to watch " on this performance? I thought he was decent, nothing more. |
| News Comment | QPR off to winning start as Sheff Wed pay penalty — match report at 07:14:36
Good report Clive.I agree about Onouha. Even last season I think he generally did a very decent job when he was picked at centre half. I still have huge doubts about Clint Hill though, hopefully Dunne will step up. A more realistic assessment of Faurlin's performance than most I have read aswell. I thought he was poor for the first hour but he did come good in the end and finished very strongly.Henry did not play very well but it is sad that he already seems to be the scapegoat in waiting, especially if Austin replaces BZ as widely expected. Neither were penalties for me either although I admit I would have been screaming for the second one at the other end. Also, I don't see why Barton would have been booked even if the ref had given the second one. He was clearly trying to withdraw his foot so a booking would have been very harsh. |
| News Comment | Hung by his own players, Hughes now in untenable position — full match report at 07:09:10
Great report Clive. I wouldn't really fault Hughes for taking Ale off though. He is just not athletic enough to play in the premier league. Players just run past him as if he isn't there all the time and his usually tidy passing just doesn't make up for his deficiencies i'm afraid.Granero was as bad but he was playing out of position and , although he was subsequently crap in his true position, I would have left him on ahead of Ale.How Bosingwa played after his performance at Stoke I will never know and he was even worse this time around. I hope he never plays for us again. |
| News Comment | Positives but no points as Tevez slays new look QPR — full match report at 08:07:27
Great report as ever Clive. Surprised you didn't mention Kolarov in your ref assessment. I am amazed he was allowed to stay on the pitch. He twice pulled SWP back in the first half after he got away from him and was booked the second time. Fair enough but Zamora was booked for pulling Tevez back without a warning. Inconsistent. He then went on to perform two body slams on Ferdinand and Onouha without further punishment. Both challenges were dangerous and cowardly in my opinion. Peter Reid and Andy Townsend both said he should have been sent off on Asian TV ( I am not sure that supports my argument though ! ) I thought Zamora was excellent and deserved MOM with Granero a close second. |
