OMG I can't believe, they actually played for mighty Leeds #6 Neil Firm Monday, 8th Aug 2011 20:39 "A big gormless lummox who spent the game wandering around with his gob open," according to a good friend of mine! Having seamlessly rolled off great names off the production line at Fullerton Park, Neil Firm alas would not follow in the footsteps of the greats. Bradford-born Firm signed pro-forms with United in January 1976 and would have to wait until deep in the Adamson era for his debut, a 1-1 draw at Manchester City in February 1980. He played against Brighton, another draw but was dropped after a 2-1 defeat to Spurs in March 1980. Another pal recalls "At 6'3" he was always going to be handy in the air but he was useless on the ball" whilst another internet source remarks "He had three left-feet". Firm would make 6 appearances in 1981/82 and just 3 in 1982/83 - he was in the side that crashed 4-0 at Coventry in September 1981 and his last appearance for the whites was also against the Sky Blues in March 1982 - a 0-0 draw, Having played a handful of games at Oldham on loan, Firm completed a £15,000 transfer to Peterborough United. By all accounts, he did okay at London Road making 72 appearances and scoring 3 times before a knee injury forced him to retire in January 1986. Like another much maligned Leeds old-boy Tony Arins, Firm took his flat-feet on the beat and joined the Police Force. He was last heard of around six years ago where he had reached the rank of DC.
