![]() Tuesday, 3rd Mar 2009 06:10 Tuesday night's trip to Barnet sees Gavin Ward as the man in charge of this crucial clash. Tuesday’s referee is affectionately known as ‘the schoolboy’ among his colleagues due to his cherubic face and extremely young looks.
In fact Surrey’s Gavin Ward is 29-years old and is in his second season on the league list.
We met him once last term at Wycombe when he spotted a late foul on Ben Muirhead and awarded Dale a penalty, which Tom Kennedy converted for the only goal of the game.
Last season, Gavin earned a reputation for being a bit card-happy, although this tailed off as the campaign progressed (27 games; 77 yellow, 9 red).
This term he has shown 58 yellow cards and two red in 22 games, most of which have been in the bottom two divisions.
Mr Ward has already refereed Barnet this season, although they won’t have happy memories of the match as it ended in a 2-0 defeat at Dagenham & Redbridge.
