"Toronto" a good thing? Are Leeds set-to turn over a new "Leaf"?
Sunday, 27th May 2012 22:14

Takeover talk intensifies.

Toellandback understand that rumour has been rife on the internet the past 72 hours that Leeds are subject to a takeover bid -hence the lack of transfer activity at the club.

Leeds boss Neil Warnock has gone on holiday this weekend with just one signing, Jason Perce in the bag when he public ally declared he would be disappointed without signing two or even three more players.

Instantly fingers were pointed in the direction of much-maligned Leeds Chairman Ken Bates, who many accuse of keeping an iron grip on the transfer kitty and many suggested that Warnock was on the verge of quitting citing broken promises as his actual budget was revealed.

However there is a school of thought that the reason Leeds are not spending I because aossible takeover is imminent.

One name that keeps cropping up is the MLSE group, based in Canada who own the Toronto Maple Leafs Ice Hockey franchise.

Toellandback stress we have no idea if there is any truth in this rumour or it is merely internet legend.

However it could be argued that it is easy to get carried away by such stories.

Even without the blinkers on, Leeds are an attractive proposition, a healthy profit return for the past three years, a one city club which is a global brand with a worldwide following and still a known name in the world of football.

The golden era of Don Revie still overshadows the more recent shame of financial mismanagement and hooliganism.

With a refurbished stadium and set up, it could be argued that Leeds have everything set up for the Premiership other than the team itself.

It is understood that Bates has opted not to broadcast any of his infamous Wednesday radio addresses during the close season, fuelling more speculation that the 80 year old has had enough running the club and being subject to a barrage of abuse throughout last season.

As we stress it is all conjecture sweeping the net and we have no idea if the next significant influx at Leeds will be new owners.

I live in Canada, just outside Toronto. The sports media here are dominated by the doings of MLSE because of the Maple Leafs. Ice hockey is as much of a religion here as football is in the UK & the Leafs are the most valuable franchise in the league ( & also have the dubious distinction of not having won a championship since 1967!). Despite all the coverage though there has been NOTHING in the media about a LUFC takeover. Sorry.

Reply and concern with you mate, two countries in the world where ice hockey is bigger sport than football. Canada and Finland, But still supporting issues for the mighty Whites here it comes NHL is a small fish in a small pond if you compare to the major sport in the world, that is football or soccer if you like... Just another of Bates transfer window stalling tactics which will come to nothing once the transfer window shuts.

It would seem that if Bates opens his mouth he is always wrong, and yet when he keeps it firmly shut, then that's a problem too?

There's no pleasing some people, by the looks of it.......

Warnock was always going on holiday anyway, nothing sinister about that, we don't need to worry ....

.... unless he doesn't come back, that is!

Lets wait till the end of June, and see if Snoddy, Warnock, Lees, and uncle Ken Cobbly and all are still around, eh?
