Leeds on the brink of new Bridcutt deal
Monday, 4th Jan 2016 18:25 by Tim Whelan

Leeds are reported to be on the brink of agreeing an extension of Liam Bridcutt’s loan from Sunderland, despite interest from Brighton and Hove Albion, Reading and Cardiff City.

Sam Allardyce is planning a clearout of the players who are not part of his plans, and although Sunderland were hoping to pick up a transfer fee by selling Bridcutt, but the two clubs are on the verge of agreeing an extension of his loan spell at Elland Road, with the option of a permanent deal at the end of the season.

Bridcutt has made it clear he is keen to stay at Leeds and has said it’s “time to move on from Sunderland”. He told the Yorkshire Post “I’m hoping to extend the deal to the end of the season and I want to extend it. Leeds want me here and it's just waiting on Sunderland. For me, game time is the most important thing.”

“The manager has been brilliant with me and given me a great opportunity to play. You can see that when I’m playing I’m back to my normal self.” And Steve Evans has returned the compliment, saying that a new deal for Bridcutt was the “first one I want in the door” during the current transfer window.

Bridcutt has been one of our best players during the decent run we’ve had lately, and we’ve only lost one of the eight games he’s played in. We need to hang onto our best players if we are to have any chance of making the play-offs, so let’s hope manage to get this deal over the line.
