Palace Fans To Arrive At Southampton On A Vintage Train !
Wednesday, 20th Apr 2016 12:36

Crystal Palace fans coming down from London for the final game of the Premier League season at St Mary's will be travelling in style on a Steam Train.

Crystal Palace FC co-owner Jeremy Hosking is apparently a prominent collector of vintage steam trains and to celebrate the Eagles season is organising a steam train journey to and from Southampton, a journey which will see the train pass under the historic St Mary's Railway Footbridge, a prominent landmark in the City since 2001 (See picture above) and recently given Grade 1 listed building status.

Return tickets from London to Southampton Central station are priced between £216-242, and include a match ticket, light refreshments on the outward journey and dinner with complimentary wines and beer on the return journey.

Alan Pardew and the Crystal Palace squad will travel on the train back from Southampton.

A stylish way to travel down to Saints albeit an expensive one, you will have to neck a lot of complimentary wine to make it cost effective when compared to the £30 (with a railcard) normal fare.

It will no doubt attract an audience of train spotters and interested Saints fans when it arrives, Palace fans are no doubt just relieved that he wasn't an avid collector of vintage bicycles.

Such a shame that Lowe closed the door for a station at the stadium.

Incidentally who painted the Northam footbridge with all that Saints stuff?
It's actually pretty good and makes a fitting approach to the ground. However I wish the club would spring for a bloke to give it a once over with a steam cleaner occasionally. It does look pretty shabby with green mould growing on it. Wouldn't cost a fortune would it!

Can anyone tell me why that was? - I've often wondered.
