Popular messageboarder standing for Rochdale at the Election in May! 17:48 - Feb 13 with 236790 viewsR17ALE

Fair play, and good luck to 1Mark1.

I think this must be a first. It also would be good to have an MP who is a genuine fan of a lower league club, and not some plastic fan who doesn't give a shit about the positives lower league football can produce.

I doubt Mark will reference his support of his hometown club in his green campaign, but I think it is well worth mentioning!

Good luck Mark!

Good luck to him. Thinking of voting Green myself due to lack of interest in any of the others.

Maybe, but after the current MP's outburst over the Hery Mirror story, I'd like to think 1Mark1 would have been far more measured in any comment issued.

Will be interesting to see if 1Mark1 makes any further comments on here now he's been "outed" as it were!

Used to post regularly a couple of years back, then suddenly re-appeared a couple of months ago. I've always found his views worth reading.

Thanks, for the messages. I did mention my support to the Ob for an interview that appears in tomorrows edition, but sadly it is not mentioned. However sharp eyed readers will notice I am wearing my Dale jacket when the picture was taken outside the Town Hall, the other great institution of Rochdale other than the Dale.:)

I will mention my support, especially in my introduction leaflet, as I am proud to have been a Dale supporter for 41 years, even though sadly in the last 5 years I have not attended as many games as I would like to have due to various personal reasons. Funny thing is when we were the worst team in the league I was going to 40 games a season, including places like Exeter on a Fri, but in the golden years, I have not been able to go as much. Definitely not a glory hunter. :)

All I ask, is that people look at all of the candidates' and their parties' policies, not just vote for a party for a negative reason, like to keep out another party.

AS far as Bastien, he was treated very harshly, and I for one will not attack someone for not living in our town. He plays and entertains our people, that's good enough for me.

UP THE DALE.

Yes well and truly outed, though I have nowt to hide:) Anyone who does hold a grudge, will now know who I am:)

I will still post, but might have to be a bit more careful, with what I might post. Obviously I have quite often held a minority view on certain issues on here, but that's the way I am, and as a political person, I am not a populist either. By that if I think something is right, I will say so even if a minority view.

Also question to R17ALE , how did you know who I was, or was it a good, educated guess?

No I will not be involving my family members in my political activities, or campaign. They will benefit, from me being out of the way more often, when I am not working.

You outed yourself a few years ago when you posted a link to another fallout amongst the local Labour party who were squabbling yet again amongst themselves. I think the article named three Labour members who quit the party in protest and one was called Mark.

Now even Miss Marple could work that one out!

And, for what it's worth - you're not a pain in the backside poster - and whilst you'll always be politically on the left of me, I actually respect you, as you're possibly the only poster on here who is left of centre, who doesn't resort to play ground insults when choosing to discuss an issue. Most left of centre politicians refuse to discuss the policies and resort to abuse - you only have to watch PMQ's to see where it all stems from!

Finally, I'd say you're popular in that you're always the first to post RIP when some poor sod has croaked! We don't see you for weeks, then some random bloke dies, and up you pop!!

Cheers for that. Yes I will always try to fight my corner on issues, with the hope of winning people over, if not then respect their view. Resorting to personal insults or dog fights is not really worth it. I would rather campaign or argue with a positive than a negative, ie give someone a reason to agree with me rather than disagree with someone else. However sometimes we all can fall into negativity.

Just for clarification I was one of the Seven expelled 5 years ago, although many others did resign in support of us, including two former mayors of Rochdale, over an internal spat which the current MP turned into a public spat, rather than keeping it internal.

I do post on other than R.I.P posts, but never a bad thing to express ones sadness at someone's death.

Do you know if there is a Green party candidtate for the Bamford, Heywood and Middleton constituency?

Genuine question, but given I think most would agree that the Green Party is becoming the party of choice for the more traditional Labour voter / candidates, but in doing so, is there any resentment among the traditional Green Party supporters that their party is being taken over, or is it a case of welcoming the extra support?

As it stands we are planing to have a candidate there, Abi Jackson who stood in the By-Election. Also all 20 Council seats, we are planning to have a candidate. Abi, is not an old fart like me, though she does not support the Dale. She is however an excellent candidate.

Problem we have is we need £1000 min for each constituency, £500 for deposit, and around £500 for Royal Mail delivered leaflet delivered to every door in constituency. So we are busy trying to raise money through crowdfunding and other means, as we have no rich backers. Mind you that also means we are also independent.

AS a recent immigrant into the GP, I got and still get the impression that the older/more longstanding members like the fact they are getting more people joining up, certainly within the local branch. Don't know if that's the case everywhere. There is a mix of people joining up, becoming supporters. Some are socialists like me, some ex Labour (like me), some independent socialists, or from other smaller socialist groups, some ex Lib Dems, some ex Liberal party, some non aligned or previously supporters of no other party, even some ex Tory. Most are Trade Unionists, and a majority if not all believe in the environment and anti nuclear weapons.

I will not be drawn publicly to talk about the first link.

As far as the Spectator, not a surprise if they and their journalist attack the Greens and their policies, as they are a right wing publication. Before the Greens took over Brighton, it was a mess. The fact that the Greens have been voted back in by the voters of Brighton, and probably will be again in May, shows that even if the Spectator or Mail, or New Labour or other political opponents, are not happy with the Greens, the people that matter are. Not saying I would agree with everything they have done, but what is right for Brighton might not be right for this town.

This town is a mess in many ways, and surely we need to do better. Ask yourselves, are you satisfied with how it has been run or represented over the last four decades, or even longer, and could it really be "time for a REAL change."

If anyone, has any questions, then feel free to ask me, publicly or by private message. What I won't do is push my agenda on here.

I sympathise with people turning to the Greens, but the truth is you have to be red to be green, their policies are the closest thing we have to communism in the UK.
I can't deny that the Greens would bring "REAL change", but is it really the change we all want? I for one would rather not sacrifice the economy and our national security at a time when we are becoming increasingly embattled, for what? Britain alone cannot stop climate change, only the BRIC countries can.
Nor would I wish to damage tourism and destroy millennia of tradition by needlessly turfing out the Queen.
The Greens are a bunch of Marxist, Philistines who hold our culture and traditions in contempt and would rather live in a society that is impoverished but equal than a society were people are rewarded for their efforts.

I'm standing for the Conservatives in Hopwood next May.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.
