Rodney was subbed 16 minutes after Hendo. I commented post-match that during that spell, Mani D was isolated due to Rodney playing too deep. JM changed it by introducing Allarakhia, a more attacking wideman than Moss, but more importantly, Pettit, which anchored the midfield whilst allowing Gilmour and East to push further forward It worked, of course. We also have Manny D, Smith when fit, and i'm not sure bringing someone else of any reasonable quality in now to sit on the bench (or not even that) would be much of an option, especially for any forward looking for game-time because they're not catching where they are now [Post edited 1 Feb 15:25]

Depends what you mean by "help" Things can change of course, and no-one's going to win every game but as things stand, the team that actually needs "help" is York - they need help from our opponents to nick points off us Whilst that stays the same, the FGs* help those who help themselves *not Rovers |

Boreham Wood now losing, with a man sent off York doing the necessary, as expected [Post edited 31 Jan 16:45]

Mentioned improvement to our midfield in terms of touch, awareness and passing earlier, but you're right, it goes for all the players. Even Whatmuff can pick a pass, and did so between two Southend forwards in the first half to Gordon that needed to be precise and properly weighted The players can buy into this since it'll enhance their career prospects, in an enjoyable winning atmosphere. I do think JM has genuine loyalty to the club. That's not to say he won't move on at some stage but i can't see it happening in the way it did with KH There's a feeling of more to come, as there was with our 68/69 side and both promotion teams under KH. We then hit a barrier, probably a financial one, and talk of "if we make it to the Championship, we might need a managed relegation". I can recall the forum when this phrase was first used; that's probably where the rot set in, alongside certain individuals. We're only just recovering from all that, but the groundwork (literally) is now in place as never before [Post edited 29 Jan 13:07]

It was noticeable last night how patient the crowd has become, absolutely due to our record and league position this time round. Of course, the two things are connected (style and form) but it's only natural for one or two sighs/groans to be heard when it appears the ball has been recycled which results in lost momentum from a promising position We're getting better all the time with variations, although it appeared EEL and Mani D were on different wavelengths when we went long a couple of times - something that can be rectified in training... Mani D starting a run into space a split second before/after EEL releases the pass to where he was before Before he was subbed, Rodney appeared to drop a bit deeper when he should've been closer to Mani. Pettit arriving gave our midfield more of an anchor, thus allowing Gilmour and Pritchard the freedom to press further upfield, resulting in the winner |

Could well be the influence of Jason Taylor, always very tidy when he played for us Might have them doing drills in training involving first touch, general awareness of space and crisper passing Coaching already decent players to get better is one way of improving morale and affinity with the club |

I agree, a signature win, that indicates we can come out on top when it really matters Our support was brilliant, and recognised by the players and BJ at the end Most pleased of all for the Ogdens. The input they've made to the club deserves to be rewarded |

The thought occurred their time-wasting might even cost us at the end, but we have the stuff that champions are made of 2 pts clear, 2 games in hand, a rest till next Tuesday Agree about subs, possibly the biggest difference from last season, with the tactics to match Feels good to be a Daley tonight [Post edited 27 Jan 22:09]

Could see that coming once we decided to push up, leaving a huge gap to run into ...but great response [Post edited 27 Jan 20:30]

Mani D and Manny D both on the bench May see them deployed together later in the game, depending on circumstances [Post edited 27 Jan 19:28]

By and large, centre-backs at National league level don't have the capacity to see the right opportunity and even if they do, play the ball with the right pace and direction EEL is probably better at doing so than most at this level, but to expect Hogan to do the same is asking too much. I don't mean you're asking him, but neither should the management be asking him. He's a defender, and a bit more "old school" than EEL |

McNulty brought in Done and Taylor, presumably to assist him with those areas of the pitch he wasn't involved with directly as a player They'll have input into signings, or they should have, and tactics such as the high press and earlier subs which have made such a difference this season Credit to McNulty for recognising he needed to strengthen the coaching side. Let's see if it makes the difference when it really matters. Crunch time, and tomorrow will be a good indicator of our approach as the pressure increases [Post edited 26 Jan 18:10]
