Obesity 11:25 - Dec 11 with 14303 viewsexiled_dictator

a very sensitive subject, not something to be laughed at, but definitely something to be addressed on a national scale.
and as someone who was probably obese and has worked very hard to reduce the medical effects of obesity, i can understand the worldly temptations and peer pressure that is out there.

H O W E V E R . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

i have an issue with dame sally davies, england's chief medical officer.
in her opinion, obesity is as big a threat as terrorism.
really?
wtf is this woman smoking, and does she get it on nhs prescription?

i am really struggling to envision a situation where an overweight female gets onto a crowded train and explodes killing tens of innocent passengers a la mr creosote. or walks down the road so recklessly that she manages to run over and kill several pedestrians.

i do understand that obesity is very real and can really affect a person and their family, but comparing it to a terrorist attack on the streets of london is just a joke. p45 time, me thinks.

It's not what you've got; it's where you stick it.

Well done, 18 stone. Until it becomes illegal to smoke AND drink AND drive fast cars AND have sex outside monogamous relationships AND take part in physical contact sport AND SO ON, as well as consume anything more than a minimum portion, tell everybody else to pull their heads in, mind their own beeswax and/or phuck off!

Lots of 'vices' cost the public purse far more than the average 'addict' contributes. Terrorism is the only problem that governments find it easy to spend thousands of times more on prevention than cure.

We should stop nambying around on this topic. Since obesity kills so many of its victims we should euthanize them at birth, thus saving them of their suffering and us of our money.

I would also put everyone in receipt of any kind of state benefit on rationing, as I don't see why my taxes should fund poor people's gluttony and inadvised lifestyle choices. They will become much more healthy on a diet of brown rice, lentils and plain vegetables. If these contemptible, feckless oiks want to neck fizzy drinks, fried chicken and doughnuts they'll have to work for it first.

Fat or obese kids are a pet hate of mine - if you've got a massively obese kid you should be done for abuse. There is zero excuse for a kid to be oveweight.

I'm gonna have a wild guess and say you know nothing about Bazza? So how the hell do you know whether he's a middle class lefty or a champagne socialist?

For my part I've spent a whole shit load of my time organising with people affected by the bedroom tax on Moss Side in Manchester, and with people affected by workfare in Sheffield - and I think "chav" is a purgative word used to demonise working class people. How do I fit in there?

Poll: So how was the season for you?

2
Obesity on 18:41 - Dec 12 with 3358 viewsJigsore

There's obese and then there's morbidly obese.

Unless that's brought about by serious medical conditions I think people owe it to society, if not themselves, not to let themselves get into the latter state.

It's a complicated issue though. It's much cheaper and easier to buy crappy processed food and chuck it in a microwave than fresh fruit which is ridiculous. Eespecially for people who work very long hours.

Maybe people do have a right to get a bit porky, maybe they've earnt it. But one thing I really can't stomach (no pun intended) is seeing people dragging a whole bunch of laski kids behind them, that isn't their choice.

Respectfully , the Bedroom tax is not a tax but a spare room subsidy( reduction in benefit to reduce overcrowding for young families) and workfare is only asking for a work contribution in exchange for benefits . The principle of that
is sound isnt it ?

Chav is a caricature word IMO and doesnt demonise anyone , Burberry isnt cheap .

I think that makes you a thoroughly nice well meaning person but IMO picking the wrong fights ......

The workfare scheme has been a catastrophic failure. It's another Labour/Tory boondoggle.

See my post from a couple of years ago...

Theres a lot wrong with the way its been implemented but the principle of it as I have sai seems sound .
The hours worked should equate to the living wage per hour .
The work should take place at state owned companies or charities or work that non claimants do voluntarily .
Leave of absence to attend interviews .
No more than two workfare persons at any one place because thats a full time job vacancy.
Full time jobs offered to workfare workers at the company ior at least compulsory interview.

I see little point in debating with someone who is not interested in what has actually happened, i.e. not interested in reality.

There are many, many things wrong with the bedroom tax, and i've got far too involved in far too many political threads recently - so I'll just say this. The idea that it somehow encourages a more efficient use of social housing doesn't stand up to even the briefest scrutiny. There are millions of people waiting for single bedroom properties to come available for example - so it isn't the case that there are properties for people to 'downsize' in to in the first place. Which effectively makes it a tax, not a subsidy.

The answer to the housing crisis is to provide more social housing, not punish people for have an 'extra' box room. And that's before you even get into the cases of people being taxed for having a room in which to keep their wheel chair etc.

Quite right.

I'm not middle class, and even if I was what different does it make who says it if it's true?

It's a control device not very subtly disguised.I had a run-in with a lady doctor who insisted I should be,with my height/build,eleven stone.I haven't been that since I popped out of the womb I think. And there she sat,the size of a water pumping station, arse cheeks hanging over the sides of the inadequate chair like a pair of wrinkled saddlebags spouting this nonsense.
So I made some porcine grunting noises and left.
