It's near unbelievable what's happened.
My belief is that there was a pan-european Lady Di type episode of mass hysteria. People busily trying to out virtue signal each other by tweeting and FB posting the picture of the dead child on the beach is where it all started.
To recognise mass hysteria you need to be outside it. Felt the same as during the Lady Di one. The lumpen mass feeling their power and trying to vigorously impose their views on and abusing others. [Post edited 29 Feb 2016 17:19]

Wood doesn't really fit that mould, but I've often found it odd that Wood does not seem to mention Powell, in Woods early days I would say she was very left so strange little or no mention of a famous political woman [famous in certain circles] on the left from her area and Powell would have been alive when Wood was a child. There were many patriotic Welsh communists from that part of Wales at one time.
If somebody said that the area i'm from at one time would have been about at least one third Welsh nationalist, at least one third Socialist and at most one third Brit Nat, with the vast majority Chapel goers who liked their beer and rugby and worked as miners I would not dispute that, although not all things were compatible with each other.
