This is not exactly true.
When you buy a player, you assume the selling club's obligations under their contract with the player. So for instance, if Dundee wanted to buy caulker from us, and we were paying him 50k a week, they'd have to match that.
However, since we terminated the contract, Caulker signed a new deal with Dundee. I imagine he's on a fraction of what he was on at QPR. It becomes significantly cheaper for Rosenborg to sign him b/c he's on lower wages; they can then allocate some of htat saved money towards the transfer fee.
From a pure footballing perspective, Caulker hadn't done sh*t for qpr for about 15 months, so it was a bigger footballing risk. Granted, he's barely played a handful of games, but to the external world, he's less of a risk now than he was 4 months ago.
