To answer the question go back to basics . 442 with 2 wingers who stay wide and put lots of crosses into Smith and Sylla
As for the future we need to sell players at the right time we will never get offered as much money for Freeman again and we needed that money to invest in central defence
I don't see why we should just accept relegation because we have a small ground and FFP we should be expecting better than this other clubs can do it

I don't think you can really say that McClaren has failed everywhere he's been.
You can't but if you look at his record in English football with the exception of his two stints at Derby; he didn't do very well at:- Middlesboro - Win ratio = 38.8% Newcastle - Win Ratio = 23.53% N. Forest - Win Ratio = 23.08%

He didnt do that well at Derby either did he really, much of his success, Twente aside when on the balance of his career overall he had a freak season and moved on. He's basically a Number 2 who by didnt basically for working for Ferguson for a few years has made a fortune out of that success, as a Number 2!
England did relatively well with him as Number 2 to Sven in many ways, as a number 1........ oh dear. At MIddlesborough he had an okish time I guess but in the end they didnt do all that and eventually a season ticket was thrown at him if I remember rightly.
I don't think he's up to it regardless as Number 1. Whatever the title might be called.

I don't pretend to know which way it'll go for SMc. I've always believed you can't judge how a season will go until ten matches are done. By then they'll have enough games home and away, played some good teams, some bad, and luck – good or bad – will have evened itself out a bit.
