Why can't Cooper and Walsh challenge for the first team job? Arguably it would provide incentive for both, and mean an injury to one would leave us with a second keeper who is game ready. |

I don't think it's just us. It's more a consequence of the intensity of the game these days, and the complexity of the fitness requirements for the players. [Post edited 25 Feb 2:41]

We were in the game until Madsen's injury, then we fell apart like a soggy Kleenex. We don't react well to injuries to key players. Maybe it's inexperience, but there's a collective but unspoken "uh-oh!" about the team after a Chair or Madsen are hobbled. Also our defence is shit. The stats prove it. Individually there's lots to like, but playing defence is a collective necessity and we don't do it well at all. Yes, it's ideal if you have an unchanged back line, and an experienced keeperlike Arsenal of the 90s, but that's not realistic in today's game. Someone within the coaching staff needs to get a grip and inculcate a collective feeling of responsibility in our defensive corps. |

Does Ale still live in London then? It wasn't totally clear to me in the chat. |

Heh! Anytime. Though given the new UK regs for visiting ex-pats I doubt it'll be soon. |

I never saw it that way. he never "hid." He's a cerebral player who'd rather make no move than a bad move. He watched, studied and learned. That approach paid off for him, and the team, as we can see now. |

I know I'm being unreasonably optimistic but a prospective mid-field of Chair and Madsen (with maybe Vale or Varane on their right side) makes me positively drool. |

Yeah. Bad choice of word on my part. I meant "journeyman within the squad." I see him as a important defensive player, but not tied to a specific position. And not a player who regularly brings the ball out of defense upfield to feed the forwards. Doesn't mean he can't do that, but he hasn't shown it since I've been watching him. As a sidebar "Journeyman" through usage has apparently become pejorative. It didn't used to be that way. It meant some one who was well qualified in their craft, and had the ability to "journey" from place to place in order to practice it. |

This. Absolutely. We need two reliable, effective, fit, midfielders who can drive the game. One — Madsen — isn't enough. The two of them will enable both the defence and forwards to do their jobs. Our other midfielders are either too young (Varane, Morgan, Vale) or journeymen at best (Hayden, Field, who's a defender anyway IMHO) [Post edited 16 Feb 3:14]

Certainly that's the case here and in the US. I did wonder however whether interested 'third parties' in the media, or among statto obsessed fans, in English football might be tracking missing appearances in the Championship. Given that they're such a significant factor in a team's success, or failure, these days. |

There's no question that injuries to first team players continues to be a significant factor at QPR. What I'm not sure of however is whether it's worse than other teams in our division. Are there statistics on the number of players lost through injury per team, and number of games they miss? |
