Villa Match Thread 11:29 - Oct 26 with 12880 viewsPinnerPaul

I started Tues/Weds thread so here's hoping forthe same outcome!

My 5th game in 5 days, so far I've seen 19 goals, 2 pens, 7 yellows and 1 red.

Tonight I'm going for 1-1, no pens, 3 yellows and no reds!

Nevertheless it might be an idea to bring on the rat to shut Grealish out of the game - everything they do goes through him.

He’s got a nice a haircut and a nice smile....
Very little else

Didn’t his grandfather have The Flora on the Harrow Road? That’s got to be worth something.

Got a bit nasty at the end of the half. We need to keep our heads and keep working hard.

I’m more impressed by Hutton. He’s holding it together for Villa.

Plus side: we're leading against a talented team who're well set up and have talent in a few places.

Negative side: I have the feeling that we are not as in control of this one as the other games recently. They're bypassing our holding midfielders and we're struggling to break up their play and get on the counter-attack.

Solution: Who knows? Keith Andrews (he of the ridiculous wig-like-but-actually-natural barnet) made a great call when he said that we might need Wells on For Hamed whose pace would cause their high line to drop deeper. I think this would open up midfield again. I know we scored with a ball over the top of their high line but that was a one-off, I think. Eze, Freeman and wells would play much better in the bigger space if we got their backs to drop off.

And the two arsewipe pundits. "Wszolek is holding him off and the defence just pulls his arm". Yes, that's a penalty d!ckhead!!!!You are allowed to hold off, but you aren't allowed to pull someone's arm. Plus how has kodjia not been booked for that?

Good thing they didnt score from that free-kick because no way was it a free-kick!

8 ins Rangers fall asleep momentarily at a free-kick into the School End from the left, ball whipped in, Rangers nowhere, whipped wide...by...someone.

Superb nick by Lynch robs Villa of a one-on-one after a sweet move.

No criticism intended here (because we are sticking with them, and winning) but Villa's money measn they have so much more talent and speed than us. And, under a new manager, for at least a while, they are well up for this.

Lumley punches a corner clear. Alamo. Rangers defending well.

Another corner coming up.

57 mins. Brief respite. Still in our half, mind.

We need Wells on, I think. Hamed may hep at defensive set=pieces but we need Wells' pace to get them back up the field.

Watching on ESPN+ here in the US; in the first half, heard a commentator note that Grealish by far and away is the most fouled player in the Championship.

To which I said aloud, "Which is easy to understand."

Dean Smith seems to be evolving swiftly from wily crafter of total football on a budget to entitled big-club whinger before our eyes.

Sensational interception then darting run by Freeman but his early through ball is cleared.

A period of broken play ends invariably in a Villa corner. Headed softly to (not at) Lumley.

Leistner caught in possession. Villa attack. Lumley bails out BFG twice, once with a parry and once with a catch.

Crossed into our box but TL's block keeps out Abraham's volley.

Looking ropey now. Leistner and Lynch just about keeping them out.

Superb read in the box by Lynch robs Abraham of a turn-and-shot.

BFG now blocks.

Corner.

Cleared by a succession of R's blocks and knocks.

Heroic stuff by Rangers but we're on a short time-leash here. Need to get control of midfield.

Now Scowen comes on for the limping Cameron.
