Then it goes to show how much more we need to invest in public transport to close the gap. Building more/better roads isn't the only answer. Give the public a viable decent alternative.

I've had the misfortune to use the trains for over twenty years and guess what. After tens of billions of pounds invested what have we got? Network shutdowns every public holiday you can think of...points failures at the drop of a hat...surely staff...and slower times in more uncomfortable carriages than 30 years ago. Oh, and don't forget the most expensive cost of travel anywhere in Europe.
Fck the railways. I wouldn't piss on them.

It is a shame that the scheme has been binned. The problem is that we as custodians of this planet have a duty of care not only for people trying to make a living, with all that entails, but also to protect the environment, unfortunately, we cannot always achieve both at the same time, it's a balancing act, one which is difficult to achieve. Sometimes difficult choices have to be made.

The Welsh integrated transport system in operation:-

On Saturday 2,000 people cycled from Cardiff to Tenby raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for local charities.

On Sunday those returning from Tenby by rail were greeted by a jobsworth transport for Wales train manager insisting on a maximum 2 bikes per train.

Listening to Drakeford the reasons given were financial and not environmental.

Therefore,.it would seem that should the financial uncertainty be removed,,the project could yet be given the go ahead.

The Severn crossing generated a turnover in excess of £100m in 2016, they could have kept the fee for a few extra years and used the money to help fund the new road. Once sorted they could have stopped charging.

I'm sure many people in this thread recycle their plastics (which get shipped to Asia and dumped into rivers and then the sea). I'm sure many are against the use of fossil fuels and want to help the planet. I'm sure there's a few who think the deforestation in places like the Amazon is awful as well.

Yet you're happy to see Wales' Amazon get irreversibly destroyed if it means speeding up a car journey. It's just like the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon situation all over again, where one of Swansea's key wildlife habitats would have been irreversibly destroyed and turned into a white elephant (also concrete).

They've had 18 years to come up with another idea. People should be sacked over this waste of £44,000,000.

A concrete elephant is a great idea. Perhaps we could get a whole herd of them and they could become a tourist attraction like the Milton Keynes cows.

So how many extra carriages should have been arranged and who pays for them?

Plus you'd figure the cyclists are pretty fvcking lazy to take the train rather than cycling...

I've been on trains where cyclists have been utter c0cks. One put his bike in seats reserved for disabled people; someone in a wheelchair got on the next stop, full kit w@nker refused to move his bike until several passengers suggested it would be in his best interests, health wise, to do so.

It all depends upon the train route.

When space for bikes is at maximum capacity, non cyclists have to take priority on busy services.

Now, in the case you raise, did the group think to contact local rail services, explain situation, see what could be arranged or was it a case of just turning up and expecting carriages to be around half full of passengers to be able to carry bikes on?
