Yes, for not responding as Starmer deemed appropriate. From his statement - "Anyone claiming there is no antisemitism in the Labour Party is wrong. Of course there is, as there is throughout society, and sometimes it is voiced by people who think of themselves as on the left. Jewish members of our party and the wider community were right to expect us to deal with it, and I regret that it took longer to deliver that change than it should. One antisemite is one too many, but the scale of the problem was also dramatically overstated for political reasons by our opponents inside and outside the party, as well as by much of the media. That combination hurt Jewish people and must never be repeated. My sincere hope is that relations with Jewish communities can be rebuilt and those fears overcome. While I do not accept all of its findings, I trust its recommendations will be swiftly implemented to help move on from this period.” No idea about his supporters but can't see any denial by Corbyn of anti-semitism in the Labour Party there.

It's not denial of anti-semitism in the Labour Party he's been suspended for though, is it It's his failure to deal with this hate crime, including some very serious examples against his own MPs (especially female ones) whilst leader. Much of the suppression of investigations came from within his office, i.e. his personal staff https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/oct/16/louise-ellman-quits-labour-part [Post edited 29 Oct 2020 15:49]

What did Starmer deem 'appropriate' as a response? From what I can glean, Corbyn is judged to have been negligent and 'less than robust' in dealing with complaints relating to anti-semitism, whilst leader of the party. There are reportedly over 50 complaints pending against Corbyn himself in relation to the same matters and his apathetic response. This sort of criticism will create a schism in the Labour party as people align themselves more clearly with the different factions within it. Starmer needs a strong stomach to deal with what's ahead.

Actually Starmer's office has so far not stated the rule Corbyn is supposed to have broken but the Party statement includes "In light of his comments made today and his failure to retract them subsequently" as the justification - so all about Corbyn's statement not any issue in the report or any failure to deal with anything. No doubt Corbyn's close circle fought to protect him against a hail of opposition from the media & others in the PLP in many unsavoury ways, including trying to suppress opposition, but the problem with your citation is that Ellman et al were always politically opposed to Corbyn so can't be deemed impartial - it's very hard to find a supporter of Corbyn's politics who also condemns him as anti-semitic.

Citing Ellman's rationale as simply being anti-Corbyn rather than anti-racist is quite frankly shameful The whole business is indefensible, but it's instructive to see who's attempting to do so

Possibly, 'yes I am anti-semitic, it was all my fault and I resign from the Labour Party'? He may have been negligent or insufficiently robust but that's not why he's been suspended. Agree about the schism, is that what Starmer wants to demonstrate his 'new management'? The Labour Party throughout its history has been split between socialism and social democracy and has never fully supported socialist policies so there's a strong argument for socialists like Corbyn not being in it.

Corbyn suspended on 16:40 - Oct 29 with 4719 views | SuddenLad | There are as many in the party who despise Starmer as there were who despised Corbyn, but for entirely different reasons. There is very little chance of any unity, whilst Momentum have such a strong presence and people like Len McCluskey are dictating what goes on. Unless the party rids itself of the extremists it will continue to wither away as a credible entity.

It is instructive seeing who's attempting to do so- JewishVoiceForLabour @JVoiceLabour 2h We are appalled that Jeremy Corbyn has been suspended from the Labour Party and the whip withdrawn. He has a proud record of fighting all forms of racism and antisemitism. This is an attack both on Jeremy and on the majority of party members. Do not leave, organise, fight back

It is his response to the report that has led to his suspension, so your assertion is factually incorrect

In terms of accuracy, you've deemed the disgust with which most people have reacted to this report as "knee jerking" As stated earlier, those seeking to defend the indefensible - either directly or by seeking to diminish the responses of others - is instructive. I needn't say anything really, simply let those twisting on their moral compass do their work

Corbyn suspended on 19:21 - Oct 29 with 4418 views | rochdaleriddler | Corbyn’s response I will strongly contest the political intervention to suspend me. I’ve made absolutely clear that those who deny there has been an antisemitism problem in the Labour Party are wrong. It’s also undeniable that a false impression has been created of the number of members accused of antisemitism, as polling shows: that is what has been overstated, not the seriousness of the problem. I will continue to support a zero tolerance policy towards all forms of racism. And I urge all members to stay calm and focused - while this problem is resolved amicably, as I believe it will be - to defeat this awful government, which is further impoverishing the poorest in our society.
