Stoke Reflection 18:40 - Nov 23 with 2213 viewsbluenwhite10

Starting 11 was as expected with the exception maybe Paal starting instead of Ashby who in fairness did alright as a makeshift left back.

Started the game well looked comfortable, but went behind to special goal from a decent looking forward and it would be nice to have one of them.

Bad error from Dunne in the build up.

The penalty I can only imagined it was a decision made in the changing room before the game that assigned those duties to Celar by Marti, but I then will question why are you putting so much pressure on a player shot of any confidence.

If it is an on the field decision I question why the hell ain’t Madaen grabbing the ball to take it.

In any level of football if you are a known penalty taker and you scored your last one and you are on the pitch then you take the next one when the game is in the balance weather you are Man City or the Dog and Duck pub team.

The penalty itself…well with the broken run up and the keeper moving early it was a case of rolling the ball into an empty and he couldn’t even do that.

There was a spell in the 2nd half when looked nervous and could not put 2 passes together.

We got 3 pieces of luck in the 2nd half.. Our goal, Varane handball which was blatant and the goal that was chalked off.

2points dropped today as I think we played well with most of the play in the Stoke final 3rd, but make no mistake Stoke was poor.

When we get the ball out wide and I look in the box I can’t see where a goal will come from with out Frey in the side and with the sale of Dykes but with Smyth poor crosses it is not really a problem.

Whoever does the recruitment you have left us with so an unbalanced side with 2 out and out forwards with one not being able to function in the system Marti wants to play.

Morrison, Varane, Field did alright today and Saito I can’t be questioned with the effort he put in did well, but the MOM was Nardi who did what he had to do when he needed to do it.

Strange subs yet again taking Smyth off and putting a right back at right wing when playing a back 4 and putting Fox in for Morrison.

The goal “chalked off” was a very clear handball. Admittedly I thought Gavin Ward would miss that but he got it right. One of Ward’s better games today.

I thought this was one of our best performances. Yes Celar was bad and someone really needs to explain why he took the penalty. On the field decision or Marti beforehand?

But let’s look at positives. Morrison fitted in very well alongside Cook….showing terrible timing of his injury at same time as JCS.
Ashby - I thought he was excellent today. Based on that, I’d put him starting right back.
Madsen - he was getting involved and playing some decent passes.
Varane - solid again I thought.
Saito - Man of the match. Love the guy and his positivity.
Field and Cook - both solid games

Obviously needed the win but we also needed a performance and we showed that today.

We've played worse this season. Stoke are a poor side but they have a decent keeper and number 9. We have an adequate keeper and no strikers.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

On the field decision according to post match. Cook is the captain his responsibility!

Do we have an adequate keeper though? No way that Stoke shot beats Dieng, Smithies or even last seasons fukwit. He was so slow to react to the shot, maybe I'm being overly harsh. Still so pissed with Dunne I'm in a blind rage...

I thought it was unsaveable right in the top corner.

No it wasn't. Slightly to the right centre of goal looking from the loft, around shoulder height, he actually dived under it.

It was a pretty good shot. Culpability there lies with how the ball was lost in the build up.

Nardi looks to me like an average Champ GK. Where does he comes on the list of first team starters you'd most like to replace? Comfortably bottom half for me.

Good passing play from Madsen was at the heart of our decent attacking play 1st half especially. Good to watch, we weren't such an attacking threat after he was subbed off. Saito my MOM too, as he kept going longer.
