A number of people like Joey Barton have made very clear hints about this in their posts on Twitter. But they don’t go into clear detail about it as they know that Lineker has top legal people who will take them to the cleaners. He’s quite the champagne socialist.

To call Barton scum is an insult to scum. I remember a few years ago MOTD 2 had him as a guest analyst for one Sunday evening programme. I, like a healthy percentage of the regular viewers, just switched channels immediately. It was a mistake the BBC didn’t repeat. Hope he gets a custodial sentence and the sh!t kicked out of him whilst incarcerated. After what he’s done it’s what he deserves. Utter scumbag.

Wow, that's quite the reaction, displaced anger maybe? I'm going to wish Mr & Mrs Barton and their child every happiness in the future as I would any couple. This from the BBC suggests the judge saw it the same way; Chief magistrate Paul Goldspring said a mitigating factor was that the couple remained in a "happy relationship" with a young child, adding: "That is not something I want to interfere with."

Barton’s just a thug from a family of thugs. His wife has kept him out of jail; God knows what fear she is living under. Poor woman. He’s a thoroughly nasty piece of work. Would love to have been a fly on the wall when he played at Newcastle with Shearer as manager.

So he didn't experience the same genteel upbringing that some of us were blessed with, does that mean he is beyond redemption?

He’s not exactly a teenager. He has a list of violent offences as long as your arm. Only a career on the channel of the insane can save him financially. He is presumably pestering GB News on a daily basis to try to get a look-in.

No Fan of Lineker But This Stirs Harassment Via Le Tissier on 11:14 - Mar 26 with 1286 views | saint901 | Part of the issue here is that people we see on TV etc and who give us memorable moments and in so doing become a "hero", are at the end of the day just people. And people are not perfect. We have all done things we are not proud of. We all regret doing some things that we wish we had not. And that is true for all people. Those with the label of "saint" and the definition that comes with it are just as flawed as the the rest of us but those flaws have been painted out of history by the brain washing of religion. I'm sure that Lineker is not the man we see portrayed by the BBC etc. I'm sure that Le Tissier genuinely believes the things he says. I'm sure that the voyeuristic British public, who love to see the "mighty" brought low in a reflection of what the Romans did in the Coliseum, will continue to lap up the public spat. What is less acceptable is to blame somebodies upbringing for acts of violence toward a weaker person. That is not a mitigation. A man hitting a woman - even if their preferred religion says it's acceptable - is never that.

Strange for suggesting that there may be redemption for people that do bad things? Would you advocate capital punishment, life imprisonment or sterilisation or all three? Thankfully most of us don't kick women in the head, but it's a very bold man who says he has never done anything he is ashamed of, maybe you are the exception? If you are then I will be coming to you for lessons in piety. Joey Barton is pushed by the algorithm. There are people who can express his views in a much more articulate way, without his baggage but his thuggishness suits those who push the left/right divide. He is merely a pawn, a distraction, part of divide and conquer. Getting maniacally angry over flawed minor celebs like Barton distracts us from those who subjugate and immiserate us and promote war that our children may die in and countless other things that affect us personally, that we have a right to be angry about.

I don't understand how you blame religion for this and what do you mean by the brainwashing of religion - are you referring to parts of islam which is aggressively patriarchal, perhaps you can explain? Surely the problems of society are due to the heart of man and the propensity to do wrong - being selfish, self cantered, thoughtless etc. I don't see someone's upbringing as mitigation for their acts, as we all have to take responsibility for our actions, however life is not a level playing field - some of us had two loving parents who taught us right from wrong, some of us did not. A realisation of this may help us give transgressors a second chance.

There is a Matt Le Tissier evening at Hartley Wintney FC this coming Friday, followed on Saturday by An Evening With Southampton FC Legends - Tiss, James Beattie and Franny Benali, at Central Hall - hosted by Kenzie Benali. Perhaps they are trying to rattle up a bit more interest / sell the remaining tickets ?

No Fan of Lineker But This Stirs Harassment Via Le Tissier on 15:13 - Mar 26 with 1065 views | saint901 | Don't think I mentioned Islam. In fact I think I said "saint" which is very much a term used in Christian religions of various hues. I did reference some religions claiming that it was acceptable to beat a wife who did not obey but my understanding is that this is also not just Islam. I believe that ALL religion is an exercise in brain washing. That starts with the pantheist cults and goes all the way to today. Religions want to have power bases so that they can influence politics and society and be part of the "great game". A group of people who will do and vote as they are told is a huge power base. To get that group of people, you need sheep who will believe anything they're told and not question their "betters". And it is these "betters" who perpetrate the greatest hypocrisy of all by claiming to know the mind, word and will of whatever passes for god in their world. I do however have great respect for those who have a genuine faith. That might be in an old man with a long white beard who lives in the sky or some other equally unlikely entity. If they really have faith that there is such a deity controlling us all in accordance with some great plan, then may they find comfort in that. Even if that is the case though, do they really need some self appointed, power hungry ego telling them what to think? No. Second chances based on having a poor start in life? Yes, provided that the individual shows an awareness of his/her errors and a desire to change. I see no signs that Barton has matured or developed or has any wish to do so.

Unless you are referring to the old babylonian occultic religion, I think you are way off beam here, which is not to say organised religion does not get corrupted or infiltrated, but clearly the biggest influences now via entertainment, western politics etc is secularism, consumerism, atheism and materialism , they come from a very different source.
