Cardiff City supposed injury crisis. Can we not........
at 12:50 19 Apr 2024

........have any of that attitude that all we have to do is turn up because the opposition have an alleged injury crisis.

I have lost count over the years of opposition teams that are supposedly struggling to put together a team to play due to an injury crisis only for us to lose 1-0. I don't want us to care who is playing for Cardiff we have to play to win and win well if possible irrespective of who is in their squad.

Truly dire experience yesterday
at 09:10 7 Apr 2024

I have been to alot of games this year, home and away - but more away. In a season that I have mostly enjoyed 3 away games stand out as being awful - Sunderland away, Huddersfield away and yesterday. At least Sunderland away you have to say Sunderland were good on that day but what we had yesterday were 2 very poor teams playing as if it was a meaningless end of season game with nothing riding on it. If our intention was to keep a clean sheet and just not losing then in that respect I guess we succeeded but my god, it was dire and painful to watch.

It would be difficult to pick out someone that played well as no one did. Not one of our players had a good game or even looked like having a good game. Even the players that you could once rely on barely broke sweat. Edozie when he came on seemed to be the only one prepared to put some effort in. Bazunu had a quiet uneventful day which given his recent record is something, but only because Rovers were as toothless as we were. 4 attempts in total on goal between the 2 sides - one of ours did actually hit the bar!

Playoffs is more or less certain but if we truly think we will get anything playing like that or recently then we may as well not bother. Teams that may not have the supposed quality that we have (though I am getting tired of us saying we have a good team on paper because they are not showing it at all) will fight and give their all and get around our boring, dull and insipid tippy tappy possession, going nowhere football.

I don't know what has gone wrong but we just look a team that has lost its way, no passion, no fight, no direction. Even Frazer looks a shadow of the person he was a little while ago. We were awful on the left and what is the point of crossing high and wide
out to the wings when we have a player is about 5ft tall? Smallbone when he came on was awful - his corners - not one got past the first man and one of his corners actually allowed Rovers to make a run towards our goal. Aribo tried but to little effect. Our midfield offered little anything as an inspiration and there was no creativity or imagination. No one seemed to want to have a go..

There was a thread earlier in the week of people being tired of football and Saints and yesterday I felt that. I am tired of us as a team be it under this manager or previous ones losing their way and being unable to motivate and create a team that fights to the end. I can cope with losing if we have tried but where was the effort yesterday?

A day wasted to be honest. The trip to the ground was good and the locals appeared friendly. I was tempted to boo at the end - I didn't, but I didn't wait around to clap when the team gave nothing deserved nothing back in my view.

Wales Playoff

This is maybe a dumb question and I am sure it is obvious somewhere, but how come the Wales Playoff semi and final is single legged played in Wales and not two legged in both countries?

Great sporting day yesterday
at 09:50 10 Mar 2024

Went to the Saints vs Sunderland game. Another entertaining chamionship game but hell do they put you through the wringer with emotions. For the first half and start of the second half we were in total control. For a better conversion rate we should have finished the half 3 or 4 goals to the good, though I was not convinced by the penalty awarded but I have not seen a repeat of it to really comment but 2-0 at half time was the least we deserved. Sunderland were very poor and we could/should have done to them what they did to us at the Stadium of Light early in the season. So how come we allowed them back into the game the way we did?

For me, we surrendered our lead largely around the early substitutions. I did not understand (and hearing loads of others say the same) why we made the changes we did at the time we did when we were so in control but there was still a third of the match to go? Had we been 4-0 up, yes, or if someone was carrying an injury. But at that point, at that time, it did not make sense and neither did it to the players as you could visibly see. I think it sent the wrong message to the players and the fans - the attitude by the management/coaches appeared to be "it is ok, we are 2-0 up we can't lose this" - oh yes we can and for a moment we nearly did. Sunderland out of no where scored 1 goal and then a superb second and suddenly we were on the backfoot by our own undoing.

Fortunately as a team and as a season we seemed to pull a rabbit out of the hat and we scored 2 great winning goals - Rothwell - not a great player but does seem to know where the goal is when it matters.

So a good entertaining game but I cannot really see how we can expect to win promotion and even less so stay in the PL should somehow we do it with our kamikaze approach to goalkeeping, failure to convert chances and to shutting down games. But for sheer entertainment and for the joy of the Championship I am not sure I am really that bothered if we go up - but then we will lose quite a few players should we not go up. A double edged sword really.

Other observations - Bazunu was poor. Needlessly put our defence under pressure with his messing around - people say that is how he has been instructed. Well, I may have been told how to drive but if you see a car in front of you braking you don't carry on pressing on the accelerator - respond to what you see and take ownership of the situation, don't be a robot! Our conversion rate is making our games more difficult than they need to be and we do not make the most of the endless corners we get. Sulemana - he really worked hard and does the right stuff until he gets in the box - everyone was willing him to score and wants him to score. Che Adams played well and Brooks was excellent which made his substitution all the more strange and Bednarek had a good game though an odd choice for man of the match. The fans - I like to defend our own fans but the vocal support was patchy even when we were 2-0 in the lead and you could sense the edginess when Sunderland leveled when we really need to get behind and lift the team. Great noise though with the 3rd and 4th goals.

A good game of football and then the pub to see the rest of the England Vs Ireland game and an exciting win for England who were the underdogs from the media perspective and to top it all the Azurri's won.

Finished off with a Chinese meal.

Will Smallbone
at 12:29 2 Mar 2024

I will admit I have been less than convinced at times by Will Smallbone's capability and he messed up when he came on the other night but I really hope us genuine fans really get behind him today and going ahead. He is a good honest lad doing his best - sometimes his best is not as good as we would like and hope and that goes for alot of players. For him and indeed anyone to face the level of mindless abuse from whoever is completely and totally unacceptable.

Blackburn Vs Newcastle and Shearer comments on Chris Nicholl
at 23:06 27 Feb 2024

Alan Shearer comments on Chris Nicholl was a nice touch and very appreciative of what Chris had done for him and other players.

I know teams from a lower league often raise their game when they play against a higher level but Blackburn Rovers looked pretty good tonight. Fast attacking football and some good performances. That Szmodic looks a useful player - though injured at the end.

Dear Saints

I am now unable to attend the above game and my ticket is available at face value for anyone interested. I will take the first person interested. Given the time I would want to post it to the person Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

No room for error or complacency
at 18:50 17 Feb 2024

As if we did not know already, but today has shown again that if for one second we take our foot off the pedal, show any sign of complacency or just get it wrong Leeds and Ipswich are more than capable of capitalising on it. Leeds (I hate to say, because I really dislike them in every respect) in particular seem unstoppable, arguably more so than Leicester at the moment. That win last night was so important because if we hadn't a small gap would have been created.

The game in hand on Tuesday becomes very important now - though it probably was anyway.
